First responders act quickly to save life

Special to the Enquirer

Deputies were nearby and responded to the report of a driver passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle at the intersection of Highway 31 and Highway 36 in Hartselle.

When deputies arrived, they reported a female subject who was not responsive and was experiencing a possible overdose.

Morgan County coroner Jeff Chunn, who was in the area and is a licensed paramedic/EMT, arrived and agreed it appeared to be a possible overdose. Deputies and Chunn agreed that Narcan should be administered.

Deputies, who carry a supply of Narcan, retrieved a dose, which Chunn administered.

According to the deputies, the female subject quickly became responsive. Additional Hartselle first responders and EMS personnel arrived, with the subject refusing further medical treatment.

A K9 deputy made an open-air search of the car, and the Hartselle Police Department arrived and administered a field sobriety test at the scene.
