City accepts $3 million bid for new municipal building

Members of the Hartselle City Council accepted a bid Jan. 26 from Woodward Construction Inc. for the remodeling of the city’s new municipal building. Woodward was the low bidder at $3,073,673.

The City of Hartselle purchased the former Wells Fargo building, located at 611 Chestnut St. NW, in 2019. The property includes two acres of land with the 21,049-square-foot building, in an “as is” condition. Mayor Randy Garrison said the building will undergo a “major overhaul” before Hartselle City Hall operations move to the new location.

Garrison said a large auditorium will take up 70 percent of the first floor and will house the city council chambers and municipal/court offices, as well as reception areas and IT offices. Two handicap-accessible public restrooms will also be added to the first floor.

The second floor will be home to the administrative offices, and the third floor will be open for future growth.

The council also awarded a bid in the amount of $36,840 to Pro Sports for youth league uniforms for the Parks & Recreation Department.

Director Tom Chappell said bidding the uniforms together saved the department about $4,000.

The next regular meeting of the Hartselle City Council will be Feb. 9.
