Tuesday boys basketball notebook: Peebles scores 40 in Tigers’ loss

Brody Peebles had his fourth 40 point game of the season in Hartselle’s 77-73 loss to Woodlawn in the first round of the Metro Tournament at Homewood High School.

Peebles had 13 in the first half as the Tigers had a 31-27 lead going into halftime. Trent Wright added 12 first-half points.

Hartselle extended their lead to nine points, 47-38 before Woodlawn closed the third quarter on a 15-5 run to grab a 53-52 lead going to the fourth.

The Colonels opened the fourth quarter with a 10-4 run to push their lead to 63-56. The Tigers cut the lead to 74-72 with less than a minute to go but couldn’t get any closer as Woodlawn held on for the four-point victory.

Peebles led all scorers with 40 points, including 25 in the second half, to lead Hartselle (11-2). Wright finished with 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Elijah Kellick added eight points, seven rebounds, and four blocked shots.

Kelvon Townsend had 27 points to lead Woodlawn, while Courtney Knight finished with 22 points and 15 rebounds.

West Point 67, Priceville 46

West Point used a second-half surge to get a 67-46 win over Priceville on Tuesday. The Warriors led 32-27 at halftime.

Kobe Bowers had a game-high 20 points for West Point. Will Cochran scored 15.

Cole Lindeman, Chris Thomas, and Dylan Fry each had nine points for Priceville (4-9).  Jake Langlois added eight points.

Danville 68, Gardendale 65

Danville got a 68-65 victory over 6A Gardendale in the West Morgan Christmas Tournament’s losers bracket.

KJ Melson had a double-double, 31 points and 11 rebounds, to lead the Hawks. Kohl Randolph had 22 points and nine rebounds, while Aaron Alexander added 11 points.

Jason Moore led Gardendale with 25 points. Clayton Cunningham scored 20.

Lawrence County 54, Brewer 53

Brewer fell to Lawrence County at the West Morgan Christmas Tournament on Tuesday.

Conner Southern had 17 points to lead Lawrence County, while Ben Michael Bennett added 15 points, and Garrett Lee scored nine.

Russell Mahan and Matt Kempson had 12 points apiece for Brewer.
