Priceville girls rise to 2-0 in area play with wins over Westminster, Randolph

The Priceville girls basketball team picked up two area wins, over Westminster Christan and Randolph, this past week.  

In the Randolph game, Jenna Walker recorded a career-high 19 assists, tied for third-highest recorded in a single game in AHSAA history. 

Priceville 78, Westminster Christian 14 

The Priceville girls made quick work of the Westminster Christian Wildcats in their 78-14 win Dec. 7. 

The Bulldogs raced out to a 19-0 lead behind a high-pressure full-court defense. With 4:10 left in the first, the starters took a seat, and the bench players hit the floor.  

They continued the run, pushing the lead to 32-0 at the end of the first. Priceville scored 24 of 32 points off 14 Westminster turnovers. 

Priceville extended the lead to 38-0 before the Wildcats scored their first points with 6:45 left in the second. The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 52-2 by halftime. 

Westminster played even with the Bulldogs in the third quarter, as both teams scored 10 points apiece.  

The Bulldogs closed out the game with a 16-2 run in the fourth to finish the 78-14 victory. 

Priceville (8-3) was led by Zoey Benson, who finished with a game-high 21 points, five steals, three rebounds and two assists.  

Kylie Hendrix added 13 points, six rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot. Lauren Hames had 11 points, nine rebounds, three steals and a blocked shot. Natalie Cartee was the fourth Bulldog in double figures with 10 points, eight rebounds and three assists.  

Abigail Garrison added nine points, four assists, two rebounds and two assists, while Walker had eight points, six assists, three steals, a rebound and a blocked shot. 

Rounding out the scoring were Tia Lambert with three points, Brianna Marquette with two points and Katrina Rotermund with one point. 

The Bulldogs scored 34 points off 31 Westminster turnovers. The defense finished with 23 steals, with 16 coming in the first half. 

Priceville 84, Randolph 11 

It was a record-setting night for Priceville in the girls’ 84-11 win over Randolph. 

The Bulldogs dominated the game from the start, as they reached out to a 21-5 first-quarter lead. They led 43-7 at halftime. 

Priceville outscored Randolph 41-4 in the second half, including a 23-0 run to close the game. 

The Bulldogs finished with 41 points off 40 Randolph turnovers. 

Walker, a Western Kentucky signee, dished out a career-high 19 assists to lead Priceville. Her previous high of 16 came in the past season in a 69-64 win over Cold Springs.  

The 19 assists are tied for the third-highest number of assists ever recorded in a single game in AHSAA history. 

Walker entered the season 11th all-time in assists with 713  in the state of Alabama. Through 11 games this season, she has 71 assists for an average of 6.5 a game. She has moved up to 10th all-time with 784 assists – just one assist out of ninth. 

Walker also had 14 points and five steals for the Bulldogs.  

Benson finished with a game-high 23 points, seven steals and five rebounds, while Garrison and Hendrix each added 12 points and five rebounds. 

Priceville improves to 8-3 and 2-0 in area play.
