Al Monzel Hartselle A memorial service for Al Monzel, 61, was held Dec. 5 at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Monzel died Nov. 28 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born Dec. 8, 1958, in Oregon to Aloysius Monzel I and Teresa Dorothy Cloutier Monzel. He was the plant manager for Dasi Products of Alabama prior to his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include one daughter, Alisha Monzel; one son, Brandon Holland; two brothers, Lloyd Plankey and Kerry Monzel; two sisters, Diana Tlumach and Pam Webb; three grandchildren, Clayton Long, Cole Sledge and Joseph Holland.

Kenneth Eugene Motes

Scottsboro

Kenneth Eugene Motes, 84, passed away peacefully Dec. 1 at Marshall Medical Center North. There will be a celebration of life for him in spring 2021.

Ken was born March 27, 1936, in Decatur to Raymond Edward Motes Sr. and Lillie Bea (Williams) Motes. After graduating from New Hope High School, Ken served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Goose Bay, Labrador. After his time in the Air Force, Ken worked in the U.S. Army on Redstone Arsenal in the missile defense program. During this time, he traveled all over the world, including Germany and Israel.

In addition to his love of travel, Ken loved his family, his lake house on Preston Island, the Alabama Crimson Tide, collecting antique glassware, camping, hunting and golf.

Ken is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Edward Motes Sr., and Lillie Bea (Williams), and a brother, Raymond Edward Motes Jr.

He is survived by his loving wife of 13 years, Gwen Motes; son Greg Motes and wife Jennifer; daughter Tami Galloway; stepson Chris Bell and wife Buffy; grandchildren Emily and Ashley Motes, Jarrod and Braydon Galloway and Layla, Harrison, Mason and Cathryn Bell.

Ken also leaves behind a brother, James Erskine Motes, and a sister, Shirley Faye Knight, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to all of the nurses, doctors and staff at Marshall Medical Center for their loving care of Ken at the end of his life. Gwen has worked at Marshall Medical Center South for many years, and the staff at both hospitals is considered family to her.

James Ronnie Hightower

Funeral service for James Ronnie Hightower, 71, was held Dec. 4 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Nathan Green officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Hightower died Nov. 30 at his residence. He was born Feb. 8, 1949, in Morgan County to James Albert Hightower and Ruby Cole Hightower. He was a truck driver for Mayfield Trucking Company prior to his retirement. He was extremely proud of both of his daughters and loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Compton Hightower; two daughters, Donyale Wooten and Shannon Owens (Tommy); three grandchildren, Clint Owens (Macy), Mekenzie Smithson (Collin) and Mary Claire Wooten; and great-grandchild Barrett James Miller.

Robert “Scooter” McCutcheon

Funeral service for Robert “Scooter” McCutcheon, 65, was held Dec. 4 at 1 p.m. at Honeycomb Holiness Church with Bro. Nicolas Nix officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Valhermoso Holiness Cemetery.

Mr. McCutcheon died Nov. 30 at his residence. He was born Aug. 4, 1955, in Cook County, Illinois, to Jack McCutcheon and Yetalee Hardy McCutcheon. He was employed by General Motors as a production line worker and retired after more than 20 years of service.

He was a vintage car enthusiast and a member of the Honeycomb Holiness Church.

His mother preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Lynn Atchley McCutcheon; one sister, Kim Gibson; and his father, Jack McCutcheon.

Pallbearers were John Gibson, Jeff Gibson, Randall McCutcheon, Justin Stapler, Lamont Hardy and Jordan Knowe. Honorary pallbearer was Michael Gibson.

Jennifer Holmes Fyock

Graveside funeral service and interment for Jennifer Holmes Fyock, 58, were held Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. at Hamby’s Chapel with Peck Funeral Home directing. No visitation was scheduled at this time.

Mrs. Fyock died Nov. 30 at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope.

She was born Jan. 28, 1962, in Morgan County to Hughes Holmes and Carolyn Miller Holmes. She lived in Daphne with her husband and children, but she grew up in Eva.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include husband Kenny Fyock; son Trey Fyock; daughter Jessica Russell (Darrin); two brothers, Dennis Holmes (Amanda) and Donald Holmes (Debra); and grandchild Graham Russell.

Maxine B. Woods

Hartselle

Maxine B. Woods, 86, of Hartselle left this life to be with her Lord Jesus Nov. 30.

She was born Dec. 3, 1933, to Russell C. and Genie Burchette Bumpas in Mt. Pleasant, Mississippi.

The widow of David C. Woods (married 67 years), she was a charter member of Decatur Christian Church and later attended Hartselle Church of Christ. She was a registered nurse, retired from Parkway Medical Center in Decatur. She loved to be outside working in the yard and flower beds or sitting on the front porch watching the neighborhood. Mrs. Woods was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter Debra K. Bates; and brothers Oliver Bumpas and Kent Bumpas.

The family gathered for a graveside service Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. in the Hartselle City Cemetery. Bro. Steve Anderson and Bro. Aaron Warnick officiated, with Peck Funeral Home making the arrangements.

Robert Bland Sandlin Sr.

Hartselle

Funeral service for Robert Bland Sandlin Sr., 70, was held Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Phillip Hardin officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Herring Cemetery.

Mr. Sandlin died Dec. 3 at Summerford Nursing Home. He was born Dec. 5, 1949, in Morgan County to Littleton Hance Sandlin and Velma Jacquelyn Orr Sandlin, who preceded him in death. He was the owner

of Russco General Contracting and was a member of the Joe Wheeler Board of Directors from 1991-1996. He served in the National Guard.

Mr. Sandlin was a member of the McKendree United Methodist Church and was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting small game and loved cattle farming, cattle auctions and antique auctions. He was a big Alabama football fan and a NASCAR fan.

Survivors include his wife, Jena Gardner Sandlin; one son, Robert Blandon Sandlin II (fiancée Becky Aldridge); one daughter, Brittany Sandlin Alexander (Thomas); one sister, Diane Dobbs; and two grandchildren, Bryant Alexander and Mason Alexander.

Pallbearers were Sandy Fields, Pat Smith, Charlie Gandy, Allen Gandy, Wayne Gandy, Charles Sandlin and Don Sandlin.

Donald A. Wear

Hartselle

A private graveside service for Donald A. Wear, 86, of Hartselle, was held Dec. 5 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville. A public memorial service will be held Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. at the Hartselle Church of Christ with Phillip Hines officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Wear died Nov. 29. He was born Dec. 3, 1933, in Jefferson County to Ray Arvin Wear and Vera O’Bille Lawrence Wear.

Throughout his life, Don Wear remained a loving and faithful Christian, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He devoted nearly 60 years to teaching Bible school classes and later served as a deacon in his church. Mr. Wear retired as assistant chief of Birmingham Fire and Rescue after 37 years of service, where he was instrumental in founding the Emergency Medical Services.

He was preceded in death by his dear parents; his beloved wife, Shirley Kay Haffner Wear; and his cherished sister, Bettie Rae Bryant.

He is survived by his loving daughters, Donna Wear Hughes and Connie Wear Holcomb; his caring sons-in-law, Ben Hughes and Steve Holcomb; and his adoring granddaughters, Kellie Holcomb and Joanna Holcomb.

James Arthur Brooks

James Arthur Brooks, 81, passed away peacefully Dec. 3 at his residence.

He is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Myrtle Brooks, brother Charles Brooks and sister Elizabeth Stewart.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances Brooks; sister Jo Ann Drake (Harwood Drake); daughter Pam Nicholson; grandchildren Allie Nicholson, Halie Nicholson, Isaac Nicholson, Julie Alexander and Joshua Roberts; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Dec. 6 at Rock Springs Baptist Church from 3-4 p.m. The funeral service followed at 4 p.m. at the church.

He served in the Army National Guard for nine years. He retired from the Alabama Department of Transportation after 28 years. He then owned Brooks Trucking, where he drove for 22 years, fulfilling his dream of driving under his own company, from which he retired.

He was a friend to everyone he met, always thinking of others before himself. He deeply loved his family and will be missed greatly.

Pallbearers were Isaac Nicholson, Wesley Weathers, Peyton Allen, Tim Allen, Greg Allen and Jimmy Weathers. Honorary pallbearers were truck drivers from Whitaker Contracting.

Gail Puckett Mobley

There was a celebration of life service for Gail Puckett Mobley of Eva Dec. 6 – what would have been her 84th birthday – at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Teague, the Rev. James Maxwell and the Rev. Gary Peebles officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Mobley left this earthly life and moved to her heavenly home Dec. 3. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 53 years, Cecil Mobley.

She leaves behind two children, Kevin Mobley (Nancy), Pontotoc, Miss., and Angie Teague (Charles), Helena. She was immensely proud of her eight grandchildren, Morgan Wolf (Joseph), Maegan Mobley, Emilie Hudgins, Raegan Hudgins, Briley Teague and Matthew Teague, and her two great-grandsons, Nathan Wolf and Jaxon Wolf. She is also survived by two sisters who she loved, Mirene Breeding and Etta Mae Thompson Campbell. She also dearly loved a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She accepted and loved all who she encountered in her life’s journey.

She was born in Somerville Dec. 6, 1936, to William Murley Puckett and Mary Elizabeth Billings Puckett. She was a devoted follower of Christ and member of Westside Baptist Church of Eva. She gleaned joy from serving others and talking to anyone who would listen. Her Facebook posts had become legendary.

Funeral service with military honors for Jeffrey Allen Lea, age 62, of Hartselle will be Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Greg Hill officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. He will be buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery.

Mr. Lea was born Nov. 4, 1958, in Oak Harbor, Washington, to Malcomb Allen Lea and Anita Bevill Lea. He died Dec. 4 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He retired as a senior security specialist with the Missile Defense Agency at Redstone Arsenal. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Cherie Teague Lea; a sister, Lisa Lea McRay; two grandchildren, Ethan Noble and Silas Bartlett; two nephews, Shane McRay and Shawn McRay; and a niece, Megan McRay.

Honorary pallbearers will be Shane McRay, Shawn McRay, Chis Stewart, Tony Weikert, Kenny Kirkland, Terry Smith, Chris Greenstein, Bailey Herfurth, Jack Napier and Ed Herring.

Larry Neal Watson Sr.

Funeral service with military honors for Larry Neal Watson Sr., age 70, of Hanceville will be Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Tom Watson officiating. Private family entombment will be in the Roselawn Cemetery Mausoleum in Decatur. Peck Funeral Home is directing.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Watson, who was born Nov. 8, 1950, in Leeds to Arthur Donnelly Watson and Myrtle Mae Alvis Watson, died Dec. 5 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, owned Budget Roofing and Construction and attended Daystar Church.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Watson; four sons, Larry Watson (Melissa), Thomas Watson (Debra), David Watson and Daniel Watson (Lindsey); four daughters, Sharon Duchock (John), Jennifer Washburn (Tyson), Christin Watson and Kathleen Arnold (Michael); and nine grandchildren, Tom, Samantha, David, Joe, Carlee, Lydia, Matthew, Elizabeth and Noah. Larry Watson, David Watson, Daniel Watson, Tyson Washburn, John Duchock and Michael Arnold will serve as pallbearers.
