Area Volleyball Tournaments: Hartselle and Danville win

Area volleyball tournaments started on Tuesday afternoon for Class 6A, 3A, 2A, and 1A.

6A

Hartselle defeated Decatur (25,-7, 25-10, 25-10) and Cullman (25-22, 25-21, 25-17) to win their third consecutive Area 14 championship and 17th in the last 18 years.

Lillyanna Cartee led the Hartselle attack with 26 kills, 26 digs, and three aces. Hailey Holshouser added 28 digs, 15 kills, and three aces. Grace Tapscott recorded 56 assists, nine digs, seven kills, three blocks, and two aces. Tori Hughes had 32 digs and four aces. Jadyn Chesser had 14 digs, nine kills, three blocks, and three aces while Jessica Jarrett finished with 16 digs and five kills.

The Tigers (48-10) will host Mortimer Jordan, who fell in three sets to Gardendale, in a regional matchup on Thursday at 5:00 pm.

3A

Danville defeated Colbert Heights and Vinemont to win the Area 15 championship. The Hawks’ victories were both three sets to none.

Danville will host Saks, who fell in three sets to Walter Wellborn, in a regional matchup on Saturday at 2:00 pm.

2A

Falkville fell in Area 14 first round to Tanner in three sets to close out their season.
