Priceville gets revenge with 49-8 win over Danville

Priceville traveled to Danville looking for a bit of revenge following last season’s 26-25 loss to the Hawks that ended a four-game winning streak for the Bulldogs. This game has been circled on the calendar since Priceville released the schedule earlier this year.

Priceville head coach Chris Foster said earlier this year that he wanted his team to be the most physical team on the field, and his Bulldogs did just that in their 49-8 victory over Danville.

The Bulldogs jumped on the Hawks from the opening kickoff and never let up, dominating both sides of the ball.

Priceville’s Landon Shockley got the Bulldogs on the board first, as he recovered a blocked punt in the end zone to make the score 7-0.

Jerry Burton scored four consecutive rushing touchdowns to push the Priceville lead to 36-0 heading into the fourth quarter. He scored on runs of 11, nineone, and 21 yards. He finished with 128 yards rushing on 14 carries.

Peyton Fowler added a 15-yard scoring run early in the fourth to extend the lead to 43-0.

Danville’s Cameron Moore scored on a three-yard run late in the fourth to make the score 43-8, but Priceville’s Xander Gaines returned the Danville kickoff 67 yards to cap off the scoring at 49-8.

Priceville finished the game with 327 total yards – 254 yards rushing and 73 yards passing. The defense allowed 109 yards, including 11 in the first half.

“I thought our team bought into our challenge for the week of being the most physical team on the field on both sides of the ball,” said Foster. “Our defense put the offense in great field position all night.”

The Bulldogs have scored 136 points in their three-game winning streak following their 7-3 loss to West Morgan in the second game of the season.

“Offensively, the biggest difference since the West Morgan game is that we made a couple of personnel changes up front,” said Foster. “As a team, we learned to bring a greater amount of focus to practice each week.”

Priceville (4-1, 2-1) travels to Rogers for a Class 4A, Region 8 matchup Friday. The two teams met in the first round of the playoffs last season, with the Bulldogs winning 44-23.
