Falkville rushing attack rolls up 460 yards in 38-0 victory over Whitesburg Christian

The Falkville Blue Devils opened 2A Region 7 play on Friday night against the Whitesburg Christian Warriors.

The Warriors are playing their first varsity football season and are coming off their first win, a 28-0 victory over Asbury.

Following a Christian Angulo interception, the Blue Devils scored on a 21-yard Peyton Sallee touchdown pass to Andrew Jones to jump out to a 7-0 lead.

Falkville added to their lead late in the first when Jordan Greenfield connected on a 27-yard field goal to extend the lead to 10-0.

Angulo added two scoring runs in the second quarter to give the Blue Devils a 24-0 lead heading into halftime.

Greenfield added a 48-yard touchdown run in the third to extend the Blue Devils’ lead to 31-0.

Austin Holmes capped off the scoring for Falkville with a 64-yard run in the fourth to push the lead to 38-0.

Falkville finished the game with 460 yards rushing on 34 carries. Greenfield finished with 152 yards on five carries with a long of 78 yards while Angulo added 147 yards on 15 carries with a long of 74 yards.

The Blue Devils’ defense had 12 tackles for loss, including sacks by Wyatt Tomlin, Luke Fitzgerald, and Lorenzo Ochoa in recording their second consecutive shut-out.

“Our defense played well and executed,” said Falkville coach Tyler Mitchell. “However, we still have some things we need to clean up on offense. Our kids played extremely hard in the win.”

Falkville (3-0, 1-0) heads to Pisgah for their first road game on Friday.
