ALDOT to repave Highway 36, Main Street
The Alabama Department of Transportation this week began work on a resurfacing project of 2.4 miles of Highway 36 in Hartselle from Highway 31 to Interstate 65. The total cost of the project is $891,062.
The work from Highway 31 to the railroad tracks will be done from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., and the resurfacing past the tracks to Interstate 65 will require the highway to be one lane, according to Mayor Randy Garrison.
While no on-street parking will be possible on Main Street while the project is ongoing, Garrison said the city parking lots that can be accessed from Sycamore and Chestnut streets will not be impacted.
Garrison said he is glad to see the resurfacing project in Hartselle begin.
“We found out last year that this is one project that would be funded … Highway 36 East is in really bad shape,” he said. “It needed some love.”
Whitaker Contracting will be handling the project.
Garrison said he is hopeful the state will begin work on the interstate lighting project soon as well. The $500,000 will bring all new LED lighting for Exit 328.
