Domestic violence call leads to drug arrest

Special to the Enquirer

After the Somerville Police Department received a domestic disturbance call from the 200 block of High Street, police arrest one man on two possession charges.

The Somerville police chief requested assistance from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office because of information from the State Bureau of Investigations that a convicted felon, possibly possessing illegal firearms, lived at the residence. Joined by deputy sheriffs, Somerville police officer responded to the scene and made contact with a man and woman at the residence.

As officers and deputies detained the male subject, a sawed-off shotgun was observed laying in plain view, approximately 3-4 feet from where the male subject was standing, according to officers. Marijuana and drug paraphernalia were also reportedly in view of the officers.

A routine check through Morgan County 911 confirmed the shotgun to be stolen, according to the Somerville Police Department, which then notified the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency SBI of the incident. ALEA arrived on scene to assist.

The man, identified as Jason Don McDougald, 45, of Somerville, was charged by Somerville police for possession of marijuana, second degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia. McDougald was booked into the Morgan County Jail with a $1,000 bond and a hold by the State Bureau of Investigation, pending additional felony charges.
