Brewer’s Jake Lawrence to play football at Faulkner

Brewer’s Jake Lawrence will continue his football career at Faulkner University.

“I chose Faulkner not only because they offered me to play football, but it’s a Christian school so I can grow in my faith,” said Lawrence. “When I was on my visit, Coach Wasden said the main goal was growing closer to God and I knew we had the same goal then.”
Lawrence had thought about giving up football until Faulkner asked him to come and visit. After the visit and some conversations with his high school coach Geoff Walters and staff, he chose to continue his playing career.

“Jake is a super kid, one that you would be proud to date your daughter,” said Walters. “He has been a great leader for us. Faulkner will benefit greatly from his character, leadership, and ability.”

Lawrence battled back from a knee injury his freshman year to become a leader on and off the field for the Patriots during his senior season. He finished his senior season with 19 receptions for 263 yards, a 13.8 yards per reception average, and one touchdown on offense. On the defensive side of the ball, he had 22 tackles, 17 assists, two fumble recoveries, and one interception.

Lawrence is the seventh Brewer player in the last five years to have the chance to continue their career on the next level.

“I would like to thank the coaching staff at Brewer for teaching me to be a man of God and how to work hard all the time,” Lawrence said. “Coach Walters and his staff have had a very big impact on my life!”
