Morgan health department to test for COVID-19

The Morgan County Health Department today and tomorrow will begin testing for COVID-19. Those who wish to be tested must be symptomatic and

-be age 65 or older or

– be a healthcare worker or

– have moderate, severe or worsening symptoms that include a fever, cough or shortness of breath

– have a condition that places the patient at higher risk

Those conditions include chronic lung disease, diabetes, cardiovascular disease or chronic renal disease. Those who are immunocompromised or have a neurological, developmental or intellectual disabilities or those who are pregnant may also qualify for testing.

COVID-19 testing will be held from 1-3:30 p.m. tomorrow and Thursday. Additional clinics will be held at the health department April 20 and April 22 from 1-3:30 p.m. There is no cost associated with the testing, but appointments must be made in advance. For an appointment, call 256-353-7021. Physician referrals are recommend.

Those being tested must be at least 19 years old and all everyone is asked to remain in their vehicles upon arrival. The Morgan County Health Department is located at 3821 US-31 in Decatur.
