Johnny Lee Depew 

Johnson City, Tennessee 

celebration of life and balloon release were held for Johnny Lee Depew Feb. 1. 

Mr. Depew, 53, died Jan. 28 at Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, Tenn. He was born in Washington County, Tennessee, Oct. 29, 1966, to Tommy Depew and Barbara Jean Crowell Depew. 

Preceding him in death were his father, Tommy Depew; two uncles; and three aunts.  

Survivors include his mother, Barbara Jean Depew; daughter, Ashley Amber Depew; sons, Cody James Depew (Brittany) and Mathew Derick Smith; two brothers, David Allan Depew and Jeffery Elbert Depew (Suzanne); one sister, Crystal Jean Depew; three grandchildren, Dominick Blake Hipolito, Sadie Faye Depew and Kynzlee Faith Depew; nieces, Kaitlyn Ann Dykes and Kare Ann (Robert) Oxendine; greatnieces, Amber Draper and Annabelle Draper; and greatnephew, Dakota Fagan. 

 

Richard “PaPa” Slaten
Falkville
Funeral service for Richard “PaPa” Slaten was Feb. 9 at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial was in Cheatham Cemetery. 
Mr. Slaten passed away Feb. 2 at Falkville Healthcare Center. He was 88 years old.  

He was born March 16, 1931, in Morgan County to Willis Street Slaten and Claytie Mae Norris Slaten. 
Preceding him in death were his wife, Carol Anne Moore; his son, Joseph Allen; a daughter, Lisa Jane; his parents; two brothers, Franklin and Roy Slaten; three sisters, Jessie Turrentine, Eloise Slaten and Edna Hall; three halfbrothers, Tennis Slaten, Dennis Slaten and Albert Adair; sisters-in-law Jean Slaten (wife of Franklin), Lilly (wife of Tennis) and Reba (wife of Albert); and brothers-in-law Earl Turrentine and Walter Hall.
Survivors include daughter Lorretta Rose Slaten, daughter-in-law Lora Slaten, grandson Gavin Slaten, sister-in-law Nancy Slatennumerous nieces and nephews from the Slaten family and wife’s (Moore) family, Rhonda, Diane and Sidney, who kept in touch with their uncle, and others visited when able.
Richard worked for Baker’s Manufacturing and Denbo Tennessee Valley Recycling.  

After the loss of his wife, he continued on with his life, raising their three children. He retired and spent his spare time hunting and fishing. He loved his beagle dogs.  

Richard helped his mother raise his siblings and helped with nieces and nephews to the best of his ability. He was loved by all and will be missed.
Pallbearers were Mickey Brown Sr., Mickey Brown Jr., Bubba Gillihand, Sidney Beard, Carl Turrentine and Jason Slaten. 

 

Charles “Charlie” Davis
Hartselle
A memorial service for Charles “Charlie” Davis, 82, of Hartselle, formerly of Louisiana, was Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home.
Mr. Davis died Feb. 5 at his residence in Hartselle. He was born Feb. 21, 1937, in Florida to John Wesley Davis and Ineta Inez Brewer Davis.  

Mr. Davis was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and retired from Operating Engineers Local 406, where he worked in construction.
Survivors include his wifeBarbara Davis; two sonsCharles Arthur Davis Jr. And John Wesley Davis II; one daughterDena Kay Nagel (Richard); seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. 

 

Mary Elma McCarley
Decatur
graveside funeral service and interment for Mary Elma McCarley, 83, was Feb. 10 at 11 a.m. at Burningtree Memorial Gardens with Bro. Michael Gunter officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. 
Miss McCarley died Feb. 6 at Decatur Health & Rehab Center. She was born April 2, 1936, in Morgan County to Otto Willis and Lela McDonald McCarley, who preceded her in death. 

 

Danny Carl Motes
Hartselle
Funeral service for Danny Carl Motes, 61, was Feb. 9 at 1:30 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Steve Barber, Bro. Jimmy Reeves and, at the graveside, Bro. Joe Jones officiating and Peck Funeral
Home directing.  Burial was in Center Springs Cemetery. 
Mr. Motes passed away Feb. 7 at his residence. He was born June 12, 1958, in Morgan County to Calvin Motes and Doris Hill Motes.
He was a selfemployed mechanic as long as his health permitted.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Boyd Motes and Marlin Motesand a sister, Penny Wren.
Survivors include his wifeLinda Motes; three daughtersLisa Motes Bryant (Chris), Christie Motes Delk (Lamar) and Brittany Motes Barber (Nick); one brotherJohnny Motes; one sisterBeverly Maxwell; and three grandchildrenDalton, Brailey and Caison.
Pallbearers were Dalton Bryant, Chris Bryant, Nick Barber, Lamar Delk, Charles Bryant and Delmer Rollins. 

 

Helen Margean Hill
Hartselle
Funeral service for Helen Margean Hill, 80, of Hartselle, was Feb. 11 at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home with Bro. F. Michael Gunter officiating. Burial was at Hartselle City Cemetery. 
Mrs. Hill died Feb. 8 at her residence. She was born Aug. 29, 1939, in Morgan County to Lewis Tankersley and Claudia Bennefield Tankersley.
Mrs. Hill owned and operated Town and Country Beauty Shop prior to her retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ronald Hill and a daughter, Denise Teague.
Survivors include two sonsJeff Ayers (Robyn Thompson) and Steven Hill (Christa); two daughtersCarol Brown and Kristina Tomlin (Jeremy); one brotherDwight Tankersley (Jenny); 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Drew Kirkpatrick, Bryan Liverett, Nick Tankersley, Thomas McHan, Jeremy Tomlin, Zac Ferrell and Bo Walker. 

 

James “Jimmy” Hill
Athens
Funeral service for James “Jimmy” Hill, 61, will be Feb. 13 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donnie Gay officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Feb. 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home.
Mr. Hill died Feb. 9 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born March 27, 1958, in Illinois, to Joe Hill and Beth Phillips Bass.  

He was employed by Dalton Carpet Mill in the Production Department.  

He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents, George and Eliza Phillips.
Survivors include mother Beth Basssister Lisa Hill Domingo (Jose); and three niecesBrandy Ahern, Amanda Green and Chelsie Schulkc.
