Hartselle overcomes loss of Marchbanks to defeat top-seeded Falkville

FALKVILLE – Hartselle overcame the loss of their starting point guard, Masyn Marchbanks, by rallying to defeat top-seeded Falkville 35-23 in the first girls’ semi-final in the Morgan Co. Tournament.

Marchbanks, injured when she got tangled with a Falkville defender and fell to the floor, was taken to the hospital for X-rays for a shoulder injury.

The Lady Tigers rallied behind the play of Lillyanna Cartee, who finished with a game-high 17 points and eight rebounds.

Hartselle’s defense was the star of the game. After giving up eight points in the first quarter, they allowed only 15 points over the final three quarters.

Unfortunately, the injuries didn’t stop with Marchbanks. Falkville’s Erika Johnson and Ellie Cate Hill left the game with injuries as well. Johnson suffered an apparent knee injury late in the first half. Hill looked to injure an ankle with about a minute to go in the game.

Falkville was led by Hill, who scored 11 points and pulled down six rebounds. Johnson had six points and seven rebounds at the time of her injury.
