Hartselle girls bowling team advances to state championships

The Hartselle Tigers girls bowling team advanced to next week’s state tournament following their top-four finish in the North Regional Tournament in Vestavia Hills.

Hartselle, the No. 4 seed, defeated No. 13 Priceville 912-772 in the first round of bracket play on Friday morning. The victory over Priceville earned Hartselle a state tournament bid.

The Lady Tigers defeated No. 5 American Christian 1,068 to 958 in the second round to advance to the semi-finals. Hartselle led by only 13 following the traditional round, 693-680. They pulled away in the Baker format of the match, 133-86, 110-103, and 132-89.

In the semi-finals, Hartselle fell to Southside-Gadsden 1,277-1,027.

Southside-Gadsden would go on to defeat Sparkman in the finals of the North Regional Tournament.

In the qualifying round on Thursday, Hartselle was led by Tori Hughes, who finished with a three-game total of 420, while Zoie Bridgeforth finished with a total of 415.

The AHSAA State Tournament is Thursday and Friday at Oak Mountain Lanes in Pelham.

The Hartselle boys just missed qualifying for state when they lost in the first round on Friday. The No. 7 Tigers fell to No. 10 Northridge 1,365-1,275.

In the qualifying round, the Tigers were led by Carter Coan, who finished with a three-game total of 597, and Nick Robinson, who bowled a 545.
