Time to wait out the winter
Happy New Year! We hope your family had a blessed holiday season. After the holidays, my Grandmother used to say, “Time to wait out the winter.” Of course, her idea of “waiting out the winter” was to sew beautiful quilts. Although I have not planned on us quilting, I have applied that general idea to the William Bradford Huie Library. We will be waiting out the winter with great new books, DVDs, craft classes, new story time themes and monthly winter reading challenges.
We have been blessed to be able to add another library assistant, Veronica Pettus. Veronica will be with us in the afternoons. We are looking forward to working with her and expanding our services.
Several times in the past few months on Facebook, I have noticed parents asking questions about homework help. I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce you to the website homeworkalabama.org. This is a fantastic website that is incredibly underused! It provides access to tutors for students, from kindergarten to adult, in more than 60 subjects. This site provides test prep for the ACT, PSAT and SAT, and for adults, the site offers help in finding a job – from writing a resume to preparing for a job interview.
A student or adult does not have to sign up for a free homeworkalabama.org account. However, creating an account is extremely helpful, allowing the user access to additional features:
- Tag favorite tutors and reconnect to them.
- Review prior sessions.
- Take practice quizzes to prepare for a test or practice skills
- Access math help – get deep, step-by-step explanations for math questions
- Use Virtual Locker to store assignments, projects and class notes online
If you have any questions about this site or any other services, please stop by the library or call us at 256-773-9880. May you and yours have a great year!
