Parker Hale and Sarah Ann Edde April 6, 2019

How They Met:

Parker and Sarah Ann met at Troy University while pursing their degrees. It was Sarah Ann’s first semester as a college student; she and Parker were in the Sound of the South marching band together, but they did not formally meet until having a class together. Sarah Ann remembers trying to focus on what was happening in class, but after realizing they had marching band in common, Parker attempted to make a friend. Sarah Ann remembers calling her mom after meeting him to tell her about “the annoying guy in computer class.” She and Parker continued to be friends for some time until the friendship blossomed into a relationship. They dated for several years while finishing school and continuing their education with additional degrees.

The Proposal

After dating for several years – some of those years long distance – Parker was going to propose. Sarah Ann continued her education by pursuing a master’s degree, and both of them, along with their families, were excited about the years ahead. Parker decided to propose after graduation; both families were going to be at graduation, so he took that opportunity to catch Sarah Ann off guard. She was so excited about graduating and that so many people wanted to come celebrate, she had no clue what Parker had planned afterwards! Sarah Ann wanted to go to her favorite place on campus that had a beautiful landscape and waterfalls to take pictures after the ceremony. While she and Parker were taking pictures, her dad told them to close their eyes because he had a present for them. The next thing Sarah Ann knew, Parker was holding a sign that a dear friend made for him that said “Will you marry me?” and was down on one knee. Sarah Ann, of course, said yes! It was such a special moment, and being able to celebrate with their families made it even more memorable.

Favorite Moment:

One of their favorite moments while dating was performing in the Sound of the South together. It was special to share such a unique experience with the person you love. Parker and Sarah Ann would always look for each other on the field and try to be close to each other during the show. They would exchange glances at each other while in the stands and make faces at each other during rehearsal. It was fun for them to support each other at something they both truly enjoyed. The Sound of the South was like one big family.

One of their favorite memories during their wedding ceremony was braiding the cross. Sarah Ann’s father handmade a cross and attached strings to it so the couple could braid the three strands together. They enjoyed that moment together because it felt like it was just them, braiding their strands together, with one strand representing God. In that moment, they were showing that together, along with the Lord, their marriage is strong and cannot be broken. Parker and Sarah Ann have that cross hanging in their home today for the constant reminder of how blessed they are.
