Christy Radford and Myron Tapscott August 30, 2019

How They Met

Christy and Myron first met more than nine years ago when Myron’s youngest son, Levi, and Christy’s oldest son, Chandler, were in the same grade and played basketball at Hartselle High School. Myron was an involved parent who attended Open House events and kept up with Levi’s grades and academic progress. Christy taught Levi for two years, so there were times Myron and Christy communicated about Levi’s progress in her English classes. Fast forward to December 2018, when Christy was Christmas shopping in Decatur, and Levi saw her. After talking for a few minutes, Christy asked Levi how his family was doing, and Levi told her his parents had divorced. Christy told Levi she hated to hear that news, and she shared the news of her own divorce. After leaving the store, Levi called his dad to let him know he had seen Christy and told his dad he should ask her out on a date. A couple months later, Levi mentioned Christy to his dad once again, and Myron decided to send a Facebook friend request. The door to communication was opened when Christy accepted the request and sent Myron a quick message about seeing Levi at Christmas. Myron and Christy went on their first date May 20, 2019, and they quickly felt a strong connection to each other. After dating and spending a lot of time together during the summer, Myron proposed to Christy Aug. 2.

The Engagement

Although Myron and Christy had not dated for a long time, there was no doubt in either of their minds that God had paved the way for them to be together. Myron decided to take Christy out to eat after work and then take her out on Smith Lake to watch the sun set. While on the lake, Myron stopped the boat and asked Christy to move to the front of the boat so he could take a picture of her looking at the sun as it was setting. While Christy was looking toward the sun, Myron was getting the ring ready to ask her to be his wife when she turned around. Since the school year was starting back, and Myron’s work schedule was going to be very hectic because of a big work project, they decided to get married Aug. 30, during the long Labor Day weekend. Planning a wedding on such a short time frame was quite involved, but everything worked out perfectly.

Favorite Details

Myron and Christy were fortunate to be able to schedule their wedding at a beautiful place called The Patio at Smith Lake. Besides having their children involved in their wedding, their favorite moment was when Christy walked down the path toward Myron. The couple had decided to incorporate a “first look” as Christy walked out. As Myron looked toward the lake, Christy’s sons escorted her down the path toward Myron. Christy was supposed to wait for the song “God Bless the Broken Road” to end before walking the rest of the way, but when Myron turned around, she immediately walked to him and kissed him. After the ceremony, Myron prayed for their new family and gave each of their boys a special keepsake to remind them of the special day and their new family.
