Prep Basketball Scorebook: Melson’s 30 points leads Danville past Cold Springs

K.J. Melson scored 15 of his game-high 30 points in the third quarter of Danville’s 59-49 win over Cold Springs in the first round of the West Point Christmas Tournament.

The Hawks (9-4) outscored the Eagles 20-15 in the third to take a 47-42 lead into the final quarter.

Kohl Randolph had 13 points and six rebounds while Cole Wren added seven points for Danville.

Adam Hill scored 13 points and Logan Rice had 11 to lead Cold Springs.

Danville advances to play Hayden, who defeated Brewer, in the second semi-final game at 7:45 pm tonight.

Hayden 75, Brewer 72: Three players scored in double figures for Brewer, but it was enough as they dropped a close game to Hayden in the first round of the West Point Christmas Tournament.

The game was tied 57-57 heading into the fourth quarter.

Matt Kempson led the Patriots with 18 points while Connor Hall added 17 and Mann McLemore scored 11 and had eight rebounds. Jake Lawrence also had eight rebounds for Brewer.

Carson Rickels scored a game-high 19 points and Nathan Morgan added 17 to lead Hayden.

Brewer will play Cold Springs in the consolation bracket at 5:15 pm tonight.

West Point 92, Falkville 60: Six players scored in double-digits for West Point in their victory over Falkville in the first round of the West Point Christmas Tournament.

West Point led 46-19 at halftime.

Dawson Norwood led Falkville (1-8) with a game-high 19 points while Colton Hooper added 14 points.

Aubrey Cleghorn led West Point with a double-double, 16 points, and 12 rebounds. Kobe Bowers (12), Tyler White (12), Logan Selby (12), Jonathan Fell (12), and Will Cochran (11) also scored in double-digits for the Warriors.

West Point will face Corner, who defeated Priceville, in the first semi-final game at 6:00 pm tonight.

Falkville will play Priceville in the consolation bracket at 4:00 pm tonight.

Corner 56, Priceville 50: Corner outscored Priceville 18-1 at the free-throw line in their six-point victory over the Bulldogs in the first round of the West Point Christmas Tournament.

Skyler Trawick scored a game-high 15 points to lead Corner, while Cameron McAllister added 11 points, and Gage Bandy had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Priceville (2-12) was led by Chris Thomas who had 13 points and seven rebounds, while Seth Hood added 12 points and five assists.

Girls Scores

Priceville 68, Lexington 43: Jenna Walker and Abigail Garrison each had a double-double in the victory over Lexington at the Keith Davis Memorial Christmas Tournament in Rogersville.

Walker finished with a game-high 16 points and 10 assists while Garrison added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs (8-5).

All twelve Priceville players scored and had a rebound.

Lexington was led by Sydney James who scored 10 points.

Lauderdale County 52, Priceville 36: Lauderdale County jumped out to a 28-13 lead at halftime in their victory over Priceville in the Keith Davis Memorial Christmas Tournament.

Lauderdale County was led by Ruthie Smith who scored a game-high 27 points while Sydney Maner added 14 points.

Priceville (8-6) was led by Jenna Walker who had 15 points, five rebounds, and four steals. Abigail Garrison added eight points and six rebounds, while Natalie Cartee scored seven points.

Mae Jemison 51, Brewer 45: With the game tied 21-21 at halftime, Mae Jemison went on an 8-0 run to close the third quarter with a 37-31 lead. Brewer countered with a 9-0 run to start the fourth quarter to take a 40-37 lead with just over four minutes to play. The Lady Jaguars closed the game on a 14-5 run to pull out a six-point victory in the first round of the Decatur Orthopedic Clinic Classic.

Brewer (11-7) was led by Hope West who had 17 points while Jacie Andrews had nine.
