Hartselle basketball takes on Athens, Muscle Shoals 

The Hartselle basketball teams played a tough week, as the Tigers played four games while the Lady Tigers played three. 

TUESDAY NIGHT 

Muscle Shoals 46, Hartselle 37: The Lady Tigers, trailing by one point at halftime, were outscored 26-18 in the second half in their 46-37 loss to Muscle Shoals Tuesday. 

Hartselle (5-4) was led by Masyn Marchbanks, who finished with 22 points, while Maggie McCleskey added six points. 

Muscle Shoals (4-3) was led by Sara Puckett, who had a game-high 24 points and 16 rebounds, and Makiyah Harrison, who had 10 points. 

Hartselle 58, Muscle Shoals 52: The Tigers faced off against a Muscle Shoals team that advanced to the Final Four last season. This game could be a preview of a subregional or Northwest Regional game later in the season. 

The two teams played close in the first half, with the Tigers holding a slim 24-23 lead. Hartselle outscored the Trojans 22-11 in the third quarter to take a 12-point lead into the final quarter.  

Muscle Shoals made a run at the Tigers in the closing minutes but saw Hartselle hold on for the 58-52 win. 

Hartselle (6-2) was led by Brody Peebles’ 19 points and Tad Sivley’s 18. 

Muscle Shoals (3-1) was led by Mikey McIntosh, who finished with 13 points, while Nick Griffith added 11, and Jamaal Acklin had 10. 

FRIDAY NIGHT 

Athens 49, Hartselle 38: The Hartselle girls saw a 20-14 lead at halftime turn into a 34-26 lead for Athens heading into the fourth quarter. The Lady Golden Eagles would hold on for a 49-38 win over the Lady Tigers. 

Hartselle (6-5) was led by Marchbanks and Lillyanna Cartee, who each finished with 13 points. 

Athens (8-2) was led by Caroline Bachus’ game-high 17 points, while Alaina Taylor had 14 points. 

Hartselle 87, Athens 61: Hartselle outscored Athens 47-27 in the second half to turn a 40-34 game at the half into an 87-61 victory. 

Hartselle was led by Peebles, who netted a game-high 38 points. Sivley added 16 pointswhile Luke Ward had 15, and Trent Wright scored eight. 

Athens was led by Keenan Hambrick, who finished with 17 points, while Braden Gross added 16.
