Brewer and Danville Basketball Opens the Season

Basketball season kicked off last week as Brewer and Danville opened their seasons last week. 

Thursday Night 

Girls 

Cullman 65, Brewer 62 OT: Four players scored in double digits for Brewer but it was not enough as Cullman outscored the Patriots 13-10 to pick up the victory. 

Hope West led Brewer with 16 points while Jacie Andrews added 12 points and Leisha Steiger and Chloe Danylo both had 11 points. 

Anna Katherine Eastman led Cullman with 19 points. She knocked down a jumper with no time on the clock to force overtime. Alexandria Barker added 15 points. 

Brewer (0-1) overcame a 6-point deficit in the fourth quarter to take a two-point lead with only seconds remaining before the Cullman (1-0) shot at the buzzer. 

Boys 

Cullman 61, Brewer 44: Cullman (1-0), who led 14-13 after one quarter, outscored Brewer (0-1) 30-17 over the next two quarters on their way to a 61-44 victory. 

Cullman was led by Cayden Graham who finished with 16 points while Jase Goolsby scored 15 and Tucker Gambrill had 10 points. 

Brewer was led by Mann McLemore who finished with 18 points and Connor Hall who added nine points. 

Saturday 

Girls 

Athens 59, Danville 39: Emma Broadfoot scored 22 points to lead Danville (0-1) in their season-opening loss to Athens on Saturday. Blaine Godfrey scored eight points. 

Kendra Smith led Athens (1-0) with 15 points while Kyndall Crutcher had 12, and Nariyah Timmons added 10. 

Danville 60, Southside-Gadsden 25: In their second game of the day, Danville (1-1) got 15 points from freshman Lauren Hames in their victory. Madison Cartee had 12 points while Godfrey added 11. 

Lee 58, Brewer 31: Brewer (0-2) led after the first quarter 15-10 but was held to only 16 points over the final three quarters in their loss to the Lee Generals in a game played at Hazel Green High School on Saturday evening.
