Dillon McDearmon

Falkville

Funeral service for Dillon McDearmon, 36, was Oct. 16 at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Milan Dekich officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Ebenezer

Cemetery in Morgan County.

Mr. McDearmon passed away Oct. 13 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 23, 1983, in Tennessee to Johnnie Kenneth McDearmon and Debbie Sue Chriswell McDearmon. He was employed by RBM Underground as a mechanic prior to his passing. He was a wonderful husband, father, son and brother. 

His father preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Anna McDearmon; two sons, Damion McDearmon and Jeffrey McDearmon; one daughter, Destiny McDearmon; mother, Debbie Chriswell McDearmon; one sister, Christy McDearmon Davis (Tige); nephews Peyton McDearmon and Wyatt Harris; nieces Rachel Davis, Caitlin Muston (Clint) and Ellie Harris; in-laws Curt and Michelle Howe; and grandmother Martha McDearmon.

Pallbearers were Charlie Reese, DayDay Bennefield, Patrick Howe, Gravy Graves, Lucky Hall and Bert Wallace.     

 

Phyllis Allen McBeth

Hartselle

Ms. Phyllis Allen McBeth passed away Oct. 13 at her residence. She was born May 27, 1950, in Kentucky to Adair Westover Allen and Clara Frances Compton Allen. She was employed as a horse groomer for Tampa Downs prior to her retirement. 

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include two sisters, Nancy Leigh Newcity, Hartselle, and Debbie Rose, Louisville, Ky., a brother-in-law, Horace LaRaine; two nieces; and two nephews.

A private family service will be held at a later date. 

 

Samuel Wayne Travis

A graveside funeral service for Samuel Wayne Travis, 64, was Oct. 16 at 11 a.m. at Salem Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing.   

Mr. Travis died Oct. 14 at UAB Hospital, Birmingham. He was born June 12, 1955, in Florida to Arnold Henry Travis and Gracie Mae Thomas. He was employed as a semi-conductor technician for National Semi-Conductor. He was an Air Force veteran. 

His parents preceded him in death. 

Survivors include one son, Patrick Travis; one daughter, Melissa Travis; one brother, Ronnie Travis; and one sister, Becky Wallis.

 

Bob Balch

Decatur

Bob Balch, 71, of Decatur, our dear father, husband, brother, friend, educator and coach, received complete healing Oct. 14. 

Bob made a tremendous difference in countless lives. His deep love for his family, along with his faith in the Savior, supported him in his final earthly experience and ultimately gave him perfect peace.

The family gathered for a private graveside service. 

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions to the Bob Balch Memorial Education Scholarship Fund are being accepted at all local Alabama Credit Union locations.

Bob was born in Decatur Oct. 9, 1948, to Hezekiah and Cecil Balch. He was a 1967 graduate of Morgan County High School. He attended Livingston University, where he graduated with a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in education. He earned an administrative degree from the University of North Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Shelia Jones and Alma Jean Balch; and three brothers, Bartley “Boots” Balch, Edd Balch and Paul Balch.

Survivors include his wife, Henrietta Balch; one son, Matt Balch (Beth); one daughter, Valerie Balch Blaske (Mark); two sisters, Anita Halbrooks (Tommy) and Mary Balch Elliott; sister-in-law Elaine Balch; seven grandchildren, Keelie Grace Balch, Avery Burke Balch, Cayden Alexander Balch, Jack Robert Blaske, Owen Mark Blaske, Nicholas Blaske (Alexis) and Christopher Blaske; and nephew Stanley Jones.

 

Carl E. Holmes

Hartselle

A graveside funeral service and interment  for Staff Sgt. Alabama Army National Guard (retired) Carl E. Holmes, 77, was Oct. 17 at 1:30 p.m. at Mount Tabor Cemetery with Bro. John Davis and Bro. Brad Roath officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. 

Staff Sgt. Holmes died Oct. 15 at his residence. He was born Dec. 26, 1941, in Morgan County to Homer James Holmes and Earline Carpenter Holmes. He was born and raised in Morgan County.
As a staff sergeant of the Alabama Army National Guard, he worked with the engineering brigade 1343 and retired with 24 years of service. He also retired from Dunlop Tire and Rubber after serving 24 years as a receiver in the warehouse. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Freddie and Kenneth Ray Holmes, and a sister, Helen Pirkle.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Holmes; one son, Shawn Holmes (Stacy); two stepsons, Dave Ward and Chris Ward; four brothers, Billy Holmes (Evon), Franklin Holmes, David Holmes and Connie Holmes (Terri); four sisters, Linda Holmes Drinkard, Carolyn Lemaster (Curt), Janice Goodwin (Clyde) and Vicky Wilbourn (Ricky); three grandchildren, Grant Holmes, Addison Holmes and Jessica Benischek; and four step-grandchildren, Haley Ward, Heather Ward, John Ward and Zachery Ward.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Comfort Care Hospice of Morgan County and especially to Nurse Sue and the chaplain, John Davis.

 

Corey Lawrence Sanderson

Nolensville, Tenn.

Corey Lawrence Sanderson, age 50, of Nolensville, Tenn., passed away Oct. 14.
Corey is the beloved son of Ralph (Larry) and Reba Nell Sanderson of Cullman. He was a loving husband, proud father and trusted friend. 
Corey served with the Metro Nashville Police Department for 26 years. During his long and distinguished career, detective Sgt. Corey Sanderson received numerous awards and commendations. He earned the trust and respect of all those he worked with. 
As devoted as he was to his career, Corey’s real pride and joy and center of his focus was his family. Corey loved to spend time with his family at the beach, enjoyed golfing and was an avid sports fan. 
In addition to his parents, Corey is survived by his wife of 22 years, Carey Peek Sanderson; daughters Alece, Taylor and Emily; sister Susan Sherick (husband Michael and children Matthew and Sydney); Aunt Virginia Campbell (Charles); and many other relatives.
He is preceded in death by grandparents, Archie and Ruby Chambers and Ralph and Helen Sanderson, and Aunt Barbara Camp.

Mary Jewel Wright Roberts
Danville
Funeral service for Mary Jewel Wright Roberts, 98, was Oct. 20 at 3 p.m. at Danville Baptist Church with Bro. Jack Bailey and Bro. Joe Bailey officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Hartselle City Cemetery.
Mrs. Roberts died Oct. 16. She was born Dec. 12, 1920, in Morgan County to James Franklin Wright and Vina Luiza Rushing Wright. She was a member of Danville Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Luther B. Roberts; her parents; a brother, Otto Wright; and a sister, Eva Ward.
Survivors include one daughter, Sheila Segars (Jerry); five grandchildren, Robin Steenson, Tracey Gillies (Neil), Mandy Bowling (Jason), Patrick Segars (Angela) and Allison Copeland (Tyler); and seven great-grandchildren, Noah Brechtel, Correy Gillies, Max Segars, Wheeler Copeland, Dawson Copeland, Briggs Copeland and Mary Kathryn Stanford.
Pallbearers were Patrick Segars, Jason Bowling, Neil Gillies, Tyler Copeland, Noah Bechtel and Joe Haynes.   
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Valley.

John Henry Cryer
Somerville
Funeral service for John Henry Cryer, 84, was Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Anthony Laster officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Turney Cemetery.
Mr. Cryer died Oct. 16 at Huntsville Hospital. He was born July 29, 1935, in Morgan County to Hammond Elijah Cryer and Lily Bell Gibson Cryer.
He was employed by Jax Mold and Machine as a machinist prior to his retirement. He was an active member of Florette Church of Christ. He is a veteran of the National Guard, where he served 26 years, six months and 10 days, after which he served seven years, two months and 20 days in the reserve and three years of active duty. He was awarded the National Defense Service medal, four Army Comp Achievement medals and eight FSMAL and a VSMAL Achievement Awards.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include two sons, Bobby Gene Cryer and Scotty Elijah Cryer; two daughters, Shelia Diane Cryer and Connie Denise Cryer Laster; one brother, Joe Cryer; two sisters, Alice Anton and Shirley Vogler; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Bruce Cryer, Jonathon Cryer, Chris Cryer, Matt Mayfield, Anthony Cryer, Russell Dale Cryer, Braxton Cescutti and Devin Harris.

Linda Kaye Hill
Decatur
A memorial service for Linda Kaye Hill, 77, will be Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. at New Beginnings Baptist Church with Bro. Clyde Ledlow officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Gum Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Flintville, Tenn. Visitation will be Oct. 26 from 1-2 p.m. at New Beginnings Baptist Church.
Ms. Hill died Oct. 17. She was born Feb. 10, 1942, in Madison County to Dawson Washington Cagle and Eva Lou Campbell Cagle. 
Linda was an only child but had many cousins who were like her brothers and sisters to her. She was employed by 3M Company, in the packing department of the film plant,  prior to her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her son, Derek Van Hill, and her parents.
She was a member of New Beginnings Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Jana Kimball (Dan) and Pamela Millwood; seven grandchildren, Jared Byrd (Brittany), Emily Brown (Josh), Jessica Rouse (Kale), Austin Byrd (Amy), Sevin Dickerson (Caitlin), Taylor Bramlett (Hunter) and Raven Hill; and seven great-grandchildren.

Harold C. Aldridge

Decatur

Funeral service for Harold C. Aldridge, 81, was Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Clark officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery, south of Danville.  

Mr. Aldridge died Oct. 18 at Riverside Assisted Living. He was born Oct. 26, 1937, in Lawrence County to Clarence Oswald Aldridge and Wenona Irene Walker Aldridge. He was employed as a buyer for Prestolite prior to his retirement.  

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Betty Jo Kyker Aldridge.

Survivors include one sister, Betty Moore of Hartselle.

Pallbearers were Lucas Moore, Rob Rettman, Martin Voorhies, Wayne Kyker, Jimmy Osborne and Isaiah Osborne.     

 

Coy Brown
Valhermoso Springs
Funeral for Coy Brown, 70, of Valhermoso Springs will be Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Jordan and the Rev. Brent Stover officiating, with burial in Valhermoso Holiness Cemetery.  V
Mr. Brown was born Feb. 8, 1949, in Morgan County to Cam A. Brown and Dorothy Dimp Brown.  He passed away Oct. 17, 2019 at Crestwood Medical Center. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Brittany Nicole Brown; and brother, Carson Brown. 
Mr. Brown served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
Survivors Include his wife, Mae Frances Brown; three sons, Coy Dwayne (Julie) Brown, Brandon Ray (Kerri) Brown and Jason Ashley (Briana) Brown; two brothers, Troy Brown and Shannon Brown; four sisters, Faye Sasser, Koneta Brown Westbrook, Roxanna Brown and Vera Bond; eight grandchildren, Kristen (Drew) Long, Olivia Brown, Carly Brown, Jessi Sylvester, Gabriel Brown, Kayla Michala Brown, Ashlee (Kyle) Taylor and Morgan Brown; and four great-grandchildren, Sawyer Long, Harper Long, Abby Brown and Elijah Brown.

Dorothy Ann Patton
Hartselle
Funeral service for Dorothy Ann Patton Orr, 96, of Hartselle was Oct. 22 at noon at First United Methodist Church in Hartselle with the Rev. Harold Thompson and the Rev. Bobby Ray Halbrooks officiating. Peck Funeral Home directed. Interment followed in Hartselle Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Orr was born Jan. 26, 1923, in Jefferson County to Charles Gilette Patton and Beuna Vista Lambert Patton. She passed away Oct. 19 in Falkville.
She, along with her late husband Charles “C.L.” Orr, was the owner and operator of Orr Drapery Co. in Decatur. She was a member of  First United Methodist Church in Hartselle since 1946 and a member of the United Methodist Church Women. She was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Daughters of the Confederacy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles “C.L.” Orr and six siblings.
She is survived by her sons David Orr and wife Vennessia and John Pat Orr and wife Candy; daughter Dottie Orr Vines and husband Larry; grandchildren John David Orr Sr., Charles Allan Orr, John Wesley Orr, William Patton Vines, Charles Cooper Vines and Lurie Lynn Orr Hallford; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be John David Orr Sr., Charles Allan Orr, John Wesley Orr, William Patton Vines, Charles Cooper Vines and James Gordon Hallford.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the building fund of Hartselle First United Methodist Church, 210 East Hickory St., Hartselle, AL 35640, or to a favorite charity.
