Small World Play School owner Joyce Parker receives Hero Award

Joyce Parker, owner of the Small World Play School in nearby Moulton, received the Hero Appreciation Award from the Modern Woodmen of America Oct. 10. 

Joyce has served the community for 30 years, taking care of area children. Joyce says she enjoys having a chance to get to know the children and getting to have a personal relationship with each of them and their families. 

The children greet everyone with a wonderful smile and a sweet “Who are you and what is your name?” 

The workers at Small World include Sheilah England, Margaret Curry, Hannah Bailey and Rita Dunlap. 

Children are pictured with Joyce at the table, in no particular order, are Elizabeth Hamilton, Gunner Bailey, Cherokee Davis, Tinsley Sutton, Harper Sutton, Silas Terry and lota Files. Children sitting on the floor with Joyce are Phoenix Blankenship, Levi Cartee, Ryler Dutton, Cooper Elkins, Aaron Louallen, Madison Moss, Bryson Terry, Lanie Terry, Charlee Weeks and Kinsey Woodard. 

Babies at Small World include Emmarie Duke, Sophia Johnson, Lainee Jo Campbell, Sam Davis, Khloe Box and Levi Sayer.

Round Top Community Church Activities

The members of Round Top Community Church hosted their Fifth Sunday Singspiration Sept. 29 at 6 p.m. The congregational singing was directed by Round Top music director Spencer Johnson. 

Everyone enjoyed the special choir and church music, with group and solo singing. 

The churches participating included First Faith, Victory Fellowship of Falkville, New Life-God’s Church, First Baptist of Falkville and Round Top. 

Following the song service, everyone was invited to the Family Life Center for refreshments. Round Top Church members and area friends prepared the food and drinks . 

The next Singspiration will be March 29.

Falkville Lions Club celebrates 75th anniversary

The Falkville Lions Club celebrated its 75th anniversary Oct. 12. Leaders and hosts for the celebration were President Terry Napier and Vice President Arthur Ray Summerford.

Oct. 12 the families of the founding club members were honored at the fall festival at Falkville Town Hall. The club members were given a reception, and announcements were made about the club’s projects and activities they have done for the community and surrounding area.

Shirley Blevins Pope attends class meeting

Shirley Blevins Pope of Corinth West Community attended her West Point High School annual class meeting and meal Oct. 3 at Golden Corral. The class co-directors for the event were Yvonne Anderson Sterling and Harold Raley.

Dawn Estes attends training meeting

Falkville town clerk Dawn Estes attended a training meeting at the Hoover Municipal Complex in the Public Safety Center Oct. 2-4. The course was for public administrative  personnel.
