College Street Players hold auditions for ‘Seussical Jr.’
College Street Players will be entering the land of Dr. Seuss in their upcoming production of “Seussical Jr.” Auditions are open to students in second through 12th grade and will take place Oct. 17 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and Oct. 19 from 9-11 a.m. at Sparkman Civic Center.
“This is open to anyone, no matter their experience,” said Dynette Weeks, who is overseeing the auditions and will be co-directing the production. “The story takes place in the jungle of Nool, and the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the elephant.”
The production will follow the story of Horton as he finds a speck that contains tiny people called Whos and his adventure as he tries to protect them.
“Ultimately the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant,” Weeks said.
Any student interested in auditioning for a main role will need to prepare a portion of a song to demonstrate his or her vocal talent during the audition. Everyone auditioning will also perform a cold read of the script.
Material for auditions can be found at https://www.mtishows.com/seussical-jr.
Weeks said practice for the production will begin Jan. 6 and will take place every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The production will be staged March 18-21, with special school presentations.
“We are just excited about bringing this gift of ‘Seussical Jr.’ to our community,” Weeks said.
