Jackie F. Sims

Hartselle

Funeral services for Jackie F. Sims, 79, of Hartselle, were at 3 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Wayne Turner officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was at Hartselle City Cemetery. 

Mr. Sims was born Aug. 15, 1940, in Morgan County to John V. Sims and Margaret Freeman Sims. He passed away Sept. 29 in Decatur at his son David’s home. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John V. Sims II. 

He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather and a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church. He loved Alabama football, chocolate and Mountain Dew. He loved doing things with his grandchildren. Jackie had a soft heart for animals and enjoyed walking his pet dog, Bama, and his neighbor’s dog. The neighborhood children always loved receiving chewing gum from him.

Survivors include his wife, Shelba Chenault Sims; two sons, Dewayne Sims (Amy) and David Sims (Donna); two sisters, Rose Marie Ellis (Joel) and Lou Ann Adams (Mike; one brother, Billy Sims (Catherine Ann); a sister-in-law, Ellen Sims; five grandchildren, Justin Sims, Tiffany Burke, Emily Sims, Joshua Sims and Lashay Terri; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were his grandchildren, great-grandson Parker Sims and a special friend, Colter Moore.

 

Doyle William Locke

Hartselle

Funeral service for Doyle William Locke, 79, was Oct. 3 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Steve Bryan officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. 

Mr. Locke died Sept. 30 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born April 22, 1940, in Coosa County to Herman Clayborn Locke and Pameli MaryAnne Moore. He was a machinist employed by Hurst Machine Shop for 37 years and for Woodland Machine Shop for six years prior to his retirement. 

He loved singing and playing the guitar and loved to dance. He enjoyed talking and spending time with his family, friends and even strangers. 

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Claires Locke Geer.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Asherbranner Locke; one son, David Wayne Locke (Tina); one daughter, Betty Jean Kelso (Bruce); one brother, Donald Locke (Geraldine); one sister, Anne Locke Bates; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jamie Pike, Weston Pike, Mike Coleman, Joshua Rutherford, Johnathon Melson and Ronnie Kelsoe. 

 

Thomas Wayne Selby

Somerville

Funeral service for Thomas Wayne Selby, 41, was Oct. 3 at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Truman Shaddrix officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Shiloh Baptist Cemetery. 

Mr. Selby died Sept. 28. He was born Dec. 18, 1977, in Morgan County to Dwayne Shaddrix and Jo Holmes Shaddrix. He was employed by Amdek as a machine operator and assembly line worker prior to his passing. He will be missed dearly by his family.

Survivors include his parents, Dwayne and Jo Holmes Shaddrix, and one brother, Billy Shaddrix (Chasey).

 

Gary Elledge

Falkville

A memorial service for Gary Elledge, 76, was held Oct. 3 at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Billy Riddle officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. 

Mr. Elledge died Sept. 29 at his residence. He was born Nov. 24, 1942, in Colbert County to Kelly Elledge and Madeline Mitchell Elledge. 

He was employed as a driver for Country Gas and for Paper-n-Chemicals prior to his retirement. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Doris Jones, Jewell Kimbrough and Norma O’Malley.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Elledge; one sister, Jeanette Jeffrey; and five grandchildren, Mallory Carpenter, Cohen Carpenter, Kennedy Carpenter, Tyler Smith and Justin Smith.

 

Donald Ray Scott

Hartselle

Funeral service for Donald Ray Scott, 64, was Oct. 9 at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Fred Nichols officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Falkville City Cemetery.

Mr. Scott passed away Oct. 5 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born April 22, 1955, in Morgan County to James Franklin Scott and Ella Mae Vernon Scott. 

He was a business manager for Stuckey’s prior to his passing. 

Preceding him in death were his wife, Michelle Savinda Scott; his parents; four brothers, Tommy, Mike, George and Robert Scott; two sisters, Peggy Young and Shirley Murray; and two grandchildren, Madden and Maddox Scott.

Survivors include one son, Joshua Scott (Jessica); one daughter, Amanda Welch; two brothers, James Scott (Susan) and David Scott (Brenda); two sisters, Sheila Young (Rathel) and Mary Pierce (Jerry); and two grandchildren, Braxton Welch and Tatum Scott.

Pallbearers were Jonathan Goodwin, James Michael Large, Preston Large, AJay Bomar, Wyatt Young and TJ Daniels.
