Hartselle welcomed 6A Region 7 foe Columbia to JP Cain Stadium Friday night as the Tigers were celebrating homecoming.

The Tigers, who entered the game on a three-game losing streak, were looking to get back in the win column against a Columbia Eagles team that is in the midst of one of the worst seasons in school history. The Eagles entered the game on a 37-game losing streak and had been outscored 283-0 this season.

Coach Bo Culver’s team jumped all over the Eagles in the first quarter, outscoring Columbia 34-0, and never looked back.

The Tigers had an outstanding performance from their junior quarterback Cal George, who led the Tigers with four touchdown passes and two touchdowns on the ground as they defeated Columbia 76-0.

Hartselle’s Brinten Barclay scored two rushing touchdowns, while Kaleb Moore added a rushing score to give the Tigers five touchdowns on the ground.

The Tigers passing attack saw Izayah Fletcher, Hunter Franks, Jayce Dubose and Moore haul in touchdown passes from George.

The Hartselle defense got in on the scoring, too, as Ryan Langston and Noah Lawler each had interceptions they returned for scores.

With the three-game losing streak over, the team now shifts focus to this Friday night’s game against Decatur.

The Tigers (2-4, 1-2) will host the Red Raiders in a critical  game within 6A Region 7. Hartselle sits in fourth place in the region, with two region games remaining.

A Hartselle win Friday night will guarantee the Tigers make the playoffs for the second straight year, following the 2017 season when the Tigers missed the playoffs for the first time since 2005.

The Red Raiders (1-6, 0-3) are coming off a 49-13 loss to Muscle Shoals.
