Shady Grove collects items for Operation Christmas Child

The members of Shady Grove Baptist Church are collecting items for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes through the month of September. Some of the items needed include mild soap, washcloths, socks, flip flops, stuffed animals, small toy cars (larger than Hot Wheels), caps, sunglasses, tote bags, crayons, coloring books and small balls. All donations and support will be greatly appreciated.

Dawn Estes, Falkville town hall and court clerk, attended a municipal court training summit at the Sheraton Hotel in Birmingham Aug. 15-16. 

First Baptist Church to host Swamp John’s fundraiser

The members of the First Baptist Church in Falkville will be holding a Swamp John’s fundraiser supper Aug. 27 from 4-7 p.m. in the fellowship hall. 

The Women’s Missionary Union will be in charge of the supper. WMU members, Falkville volunteers and Swamp John employees will serve, fish, shrimp, chicken, slaw, fries, hushpuppies and tea. You can dine in or carry out, and your support will be appreciated.

Falkville High School Class of 1952 meets

The Falkville High School Class of 1952 held its monthly meeting July 27 at Libby’s Restaurant on Priceville Mountain. 

Everyone enjoyed hearing the news that their class leader, Howard Gibson, is getting settled in and enjoying his new home near his grandson. Since he moved southwest, Ray Sanders  and wife Betty will take care of the 1952 class business. 

A message of condolence was sent to the Barbara Ward Kerrins family. Barbara was a life-long resident of the Cedar Cove Community and enjoyed her home near the Ward family farmland. 

Everyone was glad to see classmate Franklin Harrison back and expressed sympathy over the passing of his wife, Billie Sue Payne Harrison, from the Blair Community. 

Scott and Betty Parker, Sarah Gaines, Charlotte Wise, Franklin Harrison and Ray and Betty Sanders planned the Aug. 24 and also the Sept. 28 meetings. Everyone enjoyed the fellowship and the good food at Libby’s.

Corinth West Baptist Church Activities

Shirley Pope prepared the monthly breakfast for the Corinth West Baptist Church women’ and men’s groups Aug. 4 at 10 a.m. Patti Condo provided the beverages for the event. A timely devotion was presented by Donna Smithson, and Dawn Shedd led the prayer for those requested. 

Corinth West Baptist Church observed National Senior Citizens Day Aug. 20 with a program, lunch and bingo in the gym.

Aaron Estes works with Dallas Cowboys

Aaron Estes of the Massey community and student at the University of Alabama has been training this summer in Texas with the Dallas Cowboys as one of their athletic trainers. He accompanied the team and coaching staff to Honolulu, Hi, for the L.A. Rams and Cowboys ball game Aug. 17 at the Aloha stadium. Aaron was a  Falkville High School graduate of 2017.

Falkville and Danville Football Game Aug. 23

The Falkville High School Blue Devils Football team will open the 2019 season at Danville Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. The Falkville head coach is Tyler Mitchell. Good wishes go out to the coaches, students, staff and parents and also the cheer leaders, band, Boosters Club and fans.
