Hartselle High track, field to host Battle of the Bands
The Hartselle High Track and Field team will hold a Battle of the Bands fundraiser Aug. 2. The event will take place at the Hartselle High School auditorium and feature various local bands and food trucks.
Susan Persall, a parent of one of the team members, is helping head up the fundraiser. She said the event will help raise funds for the upcoming season. “We are trying to raise money for the track and field to update the facilities,” Persall said.
The team is accepting applications for bands of all genres to perform during the event. Persall said the event is open to all bands, including single performers, as long as there is at least one musical instrument. The winning performer will earn a $200 prize and a four-hour professional recording session in Decatur.
Persall said the team came up with the event as a way to raise funds as well as provide an activity for the community. “We wanted to think of something a little different to draw in the community,” she said.
The team will be using the funds to add bleachers to its facilities, to be able to host track meets in the future and use those funds to help cover some of the team expenses. “Last year they had the best year they have had in a long time,” Persall said.
Entries for the show are $25 and can be secured by contacting a team member or Persall at 256-773-4418. Admission to the event will be $5.
