Books of the Week June 9-15

By Michelle Blaylock and Patricia Poe

William Bradford Huie Library

Book: “The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs”

Author: Jon Scieszka

Reading level: kindergarten to third

This is an older book, but I love it! It is a fun story-time book. It is written from the wolf’s point of view. It is a great book to lead children to look at other people’s points of view but also to have them think about whether a person’s actions make sense.

Children can also draw their own conclusions at the end of the story. Is the wolf telling the truth or just making it up?

Book: “The Last Letter”

Author: Rebecca Yarros

If you would like to experience an emotional roller coaster, “The Last Letter” is the ideal book for you. This book is a military romance but with so much more going on that it’s not qualified to be defined as just a romance book.

The male characters are military brothers in arms, and the female character is the sister of one of the men.

With every military story that comes out, you know there is going to be some loss of some kind. This is devastating nonetheless.

The author has chosen to have her two main characters write each other letters, establishing a connection across worlds apart through their daily struggles. In these letters they learn about each other and come to care for each other very deeply.

This is just the romance part of the book. There are moments of deep emotion that will bring you to tears.

Rebecca Yarros is a new author to us here in the library. We hope to find more great nuggets by her.
