Decoration Days start in May

Decoration Days at area churches are announced as follows:

  •   Friendship Baptist Church: first Sunday, May 5, with morning worship program.
  •   Round Top Community Church: first Sunday, May 5, with morning worship service and

    lunch in the Family Life Center.

  •   Herring Cemetery: second Sunday, May 12.
  •   McKendree United Methodist Church: second Sunday, May 12, with a 10:45 a.m.

    worship service.

  •   Mt. Vernon Methodist Church: second Sunday, May 12, with morning worship service

    and lunch in the fellowship hall.

  •   Lebanon Baptist Church: third Sunday, May 19, with morning worship service and lunch

    in the fellowship hall.

  •   Corinth West Methodist Church: third Sunday, May 19, with a program at the morning

    worship service and lunch in the fellowship hall.

  •   Evergreen Cemetery, fourth Sunday, May 26, with the families meeting Saturday

    afternoon and also Sunday morning.

    Shady Grove Baptist Church Activities

    Congratulations goes out this week to Dan and Jana (Byrd) Kimball, who were united in marriage at Shady Grove Church by pastor Tom Campbell March 16.
    Meals and More Ministry at Shady Grove Baptist Church are seeking those in the community who are eligible to receive a daily meal. Their goal is to bring nourishment and kindness to home-bound elderly clients. For more information, please contact Ron Gillott at 256-612-3077. The members of Shady Grove Baptist Church held a bridal shower for Rachel Terry, bride-elect of Nick Lovell, April 14 at 2 p.m.

    North Alabama Antique Tractor Club News

    The North Alabama Antique Tractor Club will hold its next meeting May 14 at 7 p.m. at the Eva Senior Center. Several members have been attending spring events. There were shows held at Snead April 6 and Moulton April 13.
    Club member Matthew Asherbranner from the Massey area is vice president of the group.Piney Grove Congregational Church News

    The members of Piney Grove Congregational Church had their Spring Revival April 15-17 at 7 p.m. The visiting evangelist was the Rev. Chris Chambliss. The music director is Trellis Hightower.
    McKendree United Methodist Church Events

    The Rev. Darrell Mosely’s sermon for Palm Sunday worship service was all about Jesus’ hardships and troubles. Jesus wanted to pray in the garden about how sad he was.
    Wyatt Sanford showed a video of children marching singing “Hosanna” and waving palm fronds. Everyone sang “How Great Thou Art,” “Surely the Presence of the Lord” and “Keep Me Near the Cross.”
    The McKendree Church members who attend the Wednesday night covered dish meals were fasting Wednesday of Holy Week.
    Bible study was conducted by the Rev. Darrell Mosely at 7:15 p.m. The group continued their interest in the John 8.

Mt. Zion Baptist Church Activities

The Mt. Zion Baptist Church Women’s Missionary Union met at Mt. Zion Church Monday night at 6:30 p.m. Items being discussed included the Swamp John’s fundraiser to be held May 17 from 4-7 p.m. The plates will be $12 each.
The study was conducted by president Beverly Murphy. The women read and discussed II Corinthians 4, and the topic was “Never Give Up.”

May 5 Mt. Zion will host the traditional Decoration Memorial service during the morning worship service. Descendants of those interred in the Mt. Zion Cemetery will be visiting and will also attend the covered dish lunch in the fellowship hall with the current membership. Loraine Cost will direct the meal and visitation time.
The children’s Easter egg April 14 was coordinated by Helen Ferguson. Refreshments were served by the department with the parents help.
Falkville United Methodist Church News
Fourteen members of the Falkville United Methodist Church Youth group met April 10 at 6 p.m. for their bimonthly meeting in the fellowship hall. The counselors were Dan and Debbie Higginbotham. The group enjoyed their pizza and cookie meal, Dan’s program and the recreation time and fellowship.
