John Larry Roy

Funeral service for John Larry Roy, 65, was Jan. 9 at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Phillip Hines officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Blair Cemetery in Cullman County.
Mr. Roy died Jan. 6 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born April 3, 1953, in Morgan County to John Elgie Roy and Elizabeth Ann Reynolds Roy.
Mr. Roy was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Janice Frye. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Wilson Roy; one son, Jamie K. Roy (Joy); one daughter, Jennifer Renee Binde (Ed); one brother, David Roy (Mary); and three grandchildren, DeAnna Steele, Austin L. Roy and Ashley L. Roy.
Pallbearers were family and friends.

 

Charles Ray Johnson
Hartselle
A memorial service for Charles Ray Johnson was held Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. at Lebanon Baptist Church, Highway 55 West, Falkville. Jerry Johnson and Randy Ashley spoke, and all guests were welcome to share a thought or funny story about Ray.
Mr. Johnson, age 73, passed away Dec. 1, 2018, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Oct. 10, 1945, in Morgan County to Howard Alton Johnson and Jimmie L. Holt Johnson. He was employed by Solutia prior to his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sue Johnson Miller.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Hammon Johnson; one son, Chuck Johnson (Nancy); two daughters, Lane Johnson Montgomery (Cameron) and Dinah Johnson (Brad); two brothers, Alton Johnson (Marietta) and Solomon Johnson (Eula); one sister, Deborah Jones (Dan); four grandchildren, Tucker Montgomery (Keirstyn), Sarah Johnson, Katie Johnson and Lily Rae Sawyer; and one great grandchild, Kolten Montgomery.

 

Roma Dean Clemons Hartman

Roma Dean Clemons Hartman, 77, passed away from her earthly home Jan. 7, surrounded by her loving family, after a long and valiant battle with Alzheimer’s. Funeral service was Jan. 11 at 11 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Timothy Clark and the Rev. Pearl Jenkins officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Burningtree Memorial Gardens.
She is survived by two sons, Lawrence Bruce Hartman Jr., Decatur, and Brian Anthony Hartman (Lisa), Waterloo, Illinois; two grandchildren, Jessica Brown (Nate) and Jackie Henry (Mike); one sister, Mary Sue Callahan, Hartselle; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Hartman, a son Barry Clemons Hartman, and two sisters, Shelby Higdon and Patsy Gilliand.
She was born June 22, 1941, in Morgan County to Tommy Washington Clemons and Martha Novelee Clemons, who also preceded her in death. She was a homemaker who retired when her husband retired from 3M. They enjoyed their retirement by traveling to places all over the United States and made numerous friends and acquaintances during their travels.page1image3519043152Pallbearers were Keith Callahan, Cleo Higdon, Todd Burch, Tony Mason, Nate Brown and Michael Henry. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the local Alzheimer’s Association in her memory.

 

Hazel McCormick Franklin Parker
Hartselle
Funeral service for Hazel McCormick Franklin Parker, 91, was held Jan. 11 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tom Campbell and Tim Rice (Hospice Chaplain) officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Mrs. Parker died Jan. 8 at her residence. She was born Nov. 23, 1927, in Morgan County to Claude McCormick and Elsie Moore McCormick.
Mrs. Parker retired from nursing after more than 40 years of service. Her places of employment included Pineview Hospital and The Lurleen B. Wallace Center. Her love for helping others continued after retirement through working at Falkville Nursing Home and several assisted living facilities.
Mrs. Parker was an avid gardener and loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She loved to cook, rarely using a recipe. She was well known for preparing food for friends and family members who were unable to cook themselves.
Mrs. Parker was a member of First Baptist Church in Hartselle, but she always considered Shady Grove Baptist Church in Neel as her home church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Virgle Parker; one son, John Wayne Franklin; a brother, Truitt McCormick; two sisters, Gladys Christian and Estelle Roberts; and a special friend, Coy Vinzant.
The family would like to thank Alacare Hospice and sitters, Fay, Doris, Theresa, Connie, Reginia, Janet and Harriett for all the love and compassion shown to her.
Survivors include one daughter, Janet Reynolds (Jerry); four grandchildren, Dana Lynn (Richie), Valerie Sapp (Mark), Leslie McAbee (Jeremy) and Trenton Reynolds (Holli); eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; daughter-in-Law, Maxine Franklin; two sisters-in-law, Betty McCormick and Katie Kirby; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Mark Lane, David Christian, Bubba McCormick, Rex Wray, Jeremy McAbee and Trenton Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers were Larry McCormick, Pat Lane and Buddy Walker.

 

John David Teague

Graveside funeral service and interment for John David Teague, 48, was held Jan. 12 at 11 a.m. at Hartselle City Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Teague was born Nov. 24, 1970, and died Jan. 7 in in Elmore. He was the son of Annie Booth Lemons of Hartselle. He is also survived by two sons, Forrest Bryant Teague and Colton River Teague; his father, David Teague (Martha); a brother, Powers Teague; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Peck Funeral Home is assisting the family.

 

Zambia Kay Wilbanks Gregory

Somerville

Funeral service for Zambia Kay Wilbanks Gregory, 51, was held Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Patrick McDonald officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Somerville City Cemetery. Ms. Gregory died Jan. 9 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. She was born Jan. 25, 1967, in Morgan County to Melvin Refford Wilbanks and Carolyn Joan Maner Wilbanks. She was a homemaker and a wonderful mother, sister and daughter. She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Wilbanks, and her uncle, Junior Wilbanks. Survivors include one daughter, Kristen Skylar Gregory, Somerville; mother, Carolyn Wilbanks, Somerville; one brother, Jason Wilbanks (Mindy), Somerville; four nephews, Jacob Willbanks, (Brianna), Kayson Wilbanks, Peyton Wilbanks and Preston Wilbanks; and her aunts and uncles, Nena Briscoe (Joe), Ronald Wilbanks (Barbara), Laneita Davis (Cecil), Gerald Wilbanks (Nancy), Rebekah Morgan (Timmie) and Shirley Wilbanks.Pallbearers were Thomas Staggs, Butch Houston, Jason Staggs, Kevin Burleson, Daren Owens and Lydel Wilbanks.

Rita Barnes Kifer
Hartselle

Rita Barnes Kifer, 67, of Hartselle went to be with her Lord Jan. 11.
Rita was born to the late Roy and Rachael Barnes in 1951. She grew up in Steele, Missouri, where she graduated from South Pemiscot High School in 1969. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in home economics from Southeast Missouri State University.
Rita was the beloved wife of James Melvin Kifer for 47 years.
She is survived by two daughters, Shelly (Jason) Tomlinson and Stephanie (Zac) Littrell, both of Franklin, Tennessee; a sister, Myrana Lee Wallen of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. She delighted in her grandchildren, Rachael Elise Tomlinson, Joseph Kifer Tomlinson, Celia Kifer Littrell and Shelly Morgan Littrell.
Rita was a devoted member of the Hartselle Church of Christ, where she dedicated herself to serving others through teaching Sunday School, hosting numerous bridal and baby showers and encouraging others with her bright smile and encouraging spirit.
Rita was an accomplished cook, master seamstress, artist, world traveler, cancer survivor and faithful servant of God. In her lifetime she visited 27 countries, all fifty states and all provinces in Canada.
The family received friends from 1-3 pm Jan. 14 at Hartselle Church of Christ, with service following. Graveside service was held at Mount Zion Cemetery in Steele, Missouri, at 1 p.m. Jan. 15.
Rita’s family and friends would like to express their utmost gratitude to her caregiver and friends who diligently comforted throughout her long illness.
Pallbearers were Andy Dukes, Rob Ellis, Kerry Hamlett, Keith Pritchard, Iulian Sfetcu and Alan Walker. Cecil Cole, Evyless Holcomb, Paul Norrid, Jim Reeder, Clarence Walls and J.D. Woodard III served as honorary pallbearers.
