Somerville Baptist Church to host annual drive-thru Christmas

Somerville Baptist Church will host their annual drive-thru Christmas Dec. 5 through Dec. 8. The free event will take place at Somerville Baptist Church from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each night and will consist of live action scenes from the life of Jesus.

Joshua Grubbs is the administrative pastor at Somerville Baptist Church and said the event is a unique way to experience the story of Christmas. “It is outside production. They ride through on a trailer and they go through different scenes from the life of Jesus Christ. From obviously where He was born all the way through His life,” Grubbs said.

The drive-thru consists of over 100 actors and volunteers and will have multiple showings each night. Grubbs said there will also be classic Christmas movies playing in the worship center while guests wait for the show and that there will be free coffee, hot chocolate and cookies in their Christmas shop at the end.

According to Grubbs, the event offers a fun Christmas tradition for the community. “It’s about the tradition. It is something our family loves to do. It is cold and you get on a trailer and cover up in blankets and you go through each scene. You go to Bethlehem to the market place where they are selling and then you come to the inn where Mary and Joseph ride up beside you on a horse and come to the inn and get turned away. It is really cool to be able to walk through as a family what it may have been like back then,” Grubbs said.

The event also gives the church an opportunity to reach out to their community. “We want to provide a true Christmas experience for families in our community. To give them another Christmas tradition to be able to do with their families and see the true meaning of Christmas,” Grubbs said.
