Disc golf brings competition, fundraising to Hartselle

Thirty-two chain nets are scattered throughout Sparkman Park. To the uninitiated, these nets might be a strange, obscure sight on a pleasant stroll through the park; to the disc golfer, these nets – or targets –mark Sparkman Park as a place of competition, fun and, on occasion, fundraising.

The Bells Angels Disc Golf Club will be hosting A Day for Kooper Sept. 9 at Sparkman Park. The entry fee for the event is $25, and disc golf holes can be sponsored for $20. All proceeds will go to Kooper Rooks, a 13-year-old Hartselle boy who was recently diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Bells Angles Disc Golf Club will also host Sparkman Under the Lights Two at the Sparkman Park Soccer Complex Aug. 25. Entry fees vary from $30-50 depending on player classification. The event will feature two rounds on a challenging temporary course and will feature a giveaway of a “tattoo from one of the best artists in the South,” according to the posting on www.discgolfscene.com.

Advanced registration for both events is required. To register for A Day for Kooper, go to https://www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/A_DAY_FOR_KOOPER_2018. To register for Under the Lights Two, go to https://www.discgolfscene.com/tournaments/2nd_annual_Under_the_Lights_2018.

The disc golf course at Sparkman Park is otherwise free to the public, featuring a main course and a lake course, with 18 holes on each course. Players must bring their own discs.
