Winston Hall of Fame inducts Hartselle’s Tim Miller

Hartselle High teacher and coach Tim Miller was inducted into the Winston County Sports Hall of Fame July 21.

Miller played center and defensive end for Winston County High’s football team, where he graduated in 1975. He also played basketball, but Miller said he was not “one of the star players.”

Miller then earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Bernard College in Cullman and a master’s degree at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.

Miller said he appreciated being inducted. “It’s an honor,” Miller said. “It means a lot that people from your hometown remember your playing days and what you did for the program.”

Miller also has a brother in the Winston County Sports Hall of Fame. “My brother was inducted 10 years ago, and having your brother in there makes it even more important,” Miller said.

Miller’s former coach, Joe Morrow, was on the induction committee. Former NFL and University of Alabama running back Bobby Humphrey spoke at the ceremony, and Tony Giles, stadium announcer for the University of Alabama, served as master of ceremonies.

Miller has taught and coached for 39 years, including a 10-year term as the head football coach at Falkville High and a three-year term as head basketball coach at Marion County High.

He has served as assistant football and basketball coach and teacher at Hartselle High for the past 19 years.
