Funeral service for Johnny Houston Stamps, 81, was held March 1 at 10 a.m. at Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church with Father Ray Remke officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation was Feb. 28 from 5-7 p.m. at Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church.

Mr. Stamps died Feb. 24 at Huntsville Hospital. He was born Oct. 18, 1936, in Choctaw County to Roscoe Lee Stamps and Eddie Maude Allen. Mr. Stamps was Roman Catholic in his faith. He was also a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Stamps retired from the U.S. Navy after 23 years as a chief petty officer, where he served on the USS Shenandoah AD-26; he also worked as a computer engineer for SCI Technology.

Mr. Stamps was also a member of the Police Chaplain Corps for the Decatur Police Department. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Shelby Stamps; and one sister, Louise Rouse.

Survivors include his wife, Anne Theresa Alter Stamps; two sons, Jason Gerard Stamps (Terra) and Scott Stamps; two daughters, Amy Forman and Amanda Stamps; one sister, Barbara Stamps; and six grandchildren, Andrew Schein, Alison Schein, Caleb Stamps, Michael Stamps, Bonnie Stamps and Allen Stamps.
