Rebels search for back-to-back area titles in 2018

West Morgan Baseball Preview

Coming off a strong season in which they captured the 3A Area 15 championship and advanced to the second round of the state playoffs, the West Morgan varsity baseball team is looking for a repeat performance during the upcoming 2018 campaign.

West Morgan finished 2017 with a 22-14 record, sweeping Carbon Hill in the first round of the playoffs, before falling to eventual state runner-up Piedmont in the second round. In order to repeat the success of last year, head coach Matt Hutto knows he has to challenge his team with a tough schedule in order to best prepare them for the stretch run.

“We are playing a tough schedule,” Hutto said. “We play mostly larger schools to help us prepare for our area games.”

Senior Shane Peters will lead a talented group of Rebels on the diamond. The outfielder/pitcher was named to the 3A All-State Second Team hitting an impressive .411 during his junior year. Peyton Barnes Trent McGregor and Gabe Peluso will round out the senior class returning for the Rebels.
