FALKVILLE– Nearly 300 people lined Jack McCaig Park, known for the lone train car neighboring Falkville High School, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. for Christmas in the Park.

The 20-year celebration takes place the first Sunday afternoon of December each year. Community members join together with their festive colors, prepared to sing Christmas carols and share a hot cup of cocoa and warm conversation with their fellow town members.

Falkville Mayor Ken Winkles spoke to the town about several people who made an impact on the community during the past year.

“There’s a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes that many people don’t realize happens, and those people deserve to be honored and thanked,” Winkles shared. “These two people go above and beyond what most people do.”

Gary Rhodes and Patricia Ramey were honored with volunteer service awards for their hard work and time given to the town to help keep it clean and updated.

Robin Roy was given an award after her Christmas card design was selected to be the featured card for the town.

Other presenters included Sen. Arthur Orr, who shared about the Alabama Bicentennial; pastor David Carroll, who was the event’s MC; and well-known community member David Halbrooks, who shared “Oh Holy Night” and led those present in several Christmas carols.
