Thomas L. Morris Sr., age 82, born March 10, 1935, passed away Nov. 18 at Decatur Morgan Hospital in Decatur. Mr. Morris was most recently from Hartselle but lived in Rutherford County, Tennessee from 1974-2016.

Tom was a veteran of the USAF, and he retired from both the state of Tennessee and from the Town of Smyrna, Tenn. He was a member of American Legion Post #15 since 1957 and a member of Smyrna First United Methodist. Mr. and Mrs. Morris were Santa and Mrs. Claus for the Town of Smyrna for many years before health required that he pass it on to his son and daughter. Tom enjoyed being part of the filming of the 1993 filming of The Conviction of Kitty Dodds and in 1994 Against the Wall.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlos and Dovie Mae Morris; his son, Daren Wayne Morris; his daughter, Penny Robin Vaughter and granddaughter Maria Dawn Vaughter; brother Frank Morris; sister Dorthy Puckett and two wonderful in-laws, Bruce and Lola Pirkle.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Linda Pirkle Morris; one son, Tommy Morris Jr., Hartselle, one daughter, Alma (Bobby) Rollins, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; one son-in-law, James Vaughter, Smyrna, Tenn.; three grandchildren: Michael Scott Morris, Tennessee, Brittani (Michael) O’Neal, Tennessee, and Doug (Amanda) Rollins, Tennessee; one great-grandchild, Adrien O’Neal; one brother, Charles Morris, Decatur; one sister, Josephine Kirby, Bixby, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were grandsons, granddaughter and nephews.

Tom’s favorite phrase was always, “All days are good days, just some are better than others.”

May your day be a good day. We will miss you Tom, Dad, Grandpa/Grumpy and our Dear Friend.

Funeral service was held at Peck Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel, officiated by the Rev. Roy Lyndburg, with burial at Union Hill Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery near Eva. Peck Funeral Home directed.
