Funeral for Lala Watts Newman, 84, was held Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Danny Pitts officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial was in Hartselle Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Newman passed away Sept. 21 at Hendrix Health Care Center. She was born May 9, 1933, in Jefferson County to Ira Babe Shockley and Maggie Bell Davis Shockley.  She was a loving wife and mother and a member of First Methodist and New Covenant churches of Hartselle. She was involved in many organizations, from the St. Jude Foundation to “Feed the Children.” She was employed by Beauti-Control Cosmetics as a consultant and representative.

Mrs. Newman loved art and enjoyed painting and sculpting. She also did volunteer work at local hospitals and nursing homes.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Troy Eugene Watts; her second husband, Dorsey Gene Newman; and her parents.
Survivors include three sons, Troy Eugene Watts Jr. and wife Sandra of Falkville, Eric Mitchell Watts of Hartselle and Ira Jeffrey Watts of Hartselle; a daughter, Melanie Walker and husband Mike Walker of Arley; a brother, Donald Shockley of Brentwood, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Michael Johnson, Jeremy Watts, Dillon Watts, Drew Watts, Chase Watts and Mike Watts.
