Falkville liquidates Infrastructure loan

The Town of Falkville has made the final payment on money it borrowed to provide infrastructure for the location of Love’s Travel Center, Mayor Ken Winkles reported at a council meeting Sept. 5.

Winkles said he closed out the loan with a payment of $39,000, ending an annual obligation of $100,000.

“We’ll put that money in our next year’s budget,” he said, “and I’ll recommend that it be used to fund needed capital projects.”

A work session and called meeting were scheduled for Tue., Sept. 12, to review the fiscal  2017-2018 budget and consider its passage, effective Oct. 1.

The council acted on agenda items as follows:

•Approved as surplus property five Mac computers and related equipment for the library

•Approved as surplus property miscellaneous traffic and street signs, which will be offered for sale to the public at the town’s annual fall festival

•Approved the fiscal 2017-2018 agreement with Morgan County Emergency Management Communication District at a cost of $23,792, an increase of $956 over the prior fiscal year

•Approved the disposal of three unclaimed abandoned handguns through an authorized firearms dealer

•Approved the renewal with the Alabama Municipal Insurance Corporation employees benefits liability insurance at cost of $41,575

•Approved expenses of $372.29 for Jill Walling to attend a wastewater conference Oct. 25-26

•Approved expenses of $1,667,09 for Bonnie Thompson to attend a municipal court conference Sept. 20-23
