Funeral for Wesley Paul Motes, 59, Decatur will be Wed. Sep. 13, at 2 p.m. at New Center Baptist Church with Bro. Ben Bates and Jon Motes officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in New Center Cemetery.

Mr. Motes died Sep. 9, 2017 at UAB Hospital. He was born March 13, 1958 in Morgan County to Johnny Wesley Motes and Nellie Ferguson Motes. He was a member of New Center Baptist Church. He worked as a chemical operator at 3M, it was a job that he loved for 38 years. Mr. Motes loved Alabama Football, fishing and the outdoors. He was a wonderful family man and he especially loved spending time with his grandson, John Wesley Motes. Mr. Motes was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include, his wife of 39 years, Connie Johnson Motes of Decatur; a son, Jon Motes (Amy) of Somerville; a daughter, Nikki Motes-Hubatka (James) of Decatur; his mother, Nellie Motes of Priceville; four brothers, Stevie Motes, Edwin Motes, Edward Joe Motes and James Alan Motes; a grandson, John Wesley Motes and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Stevie Motes, Edwin Motes, Edward Joe Motes, James Alan Motes, Jerry Johnson, Fred Leonard and Chadwick Day.

The family would like to express a special thanks to Mr. Motes’ doctors and nurses for their loving care.
