Riley’s Resource Center awarded Hartselle Beautification Award

After almost a year of hard work, the students of Riley’s Resource Center and the students of the Agriscience class at HJHS were awarded the Hartselle Beautification Award on Friday, May 12. Carolyn Wallace, the executive director for the Hartselle Beautification Association, was more than excited to give the award to the leader teacher Tasha McKee. “The idea crossed my mind when I took the position after Robin Riley passed away in 2015. We were all in one room and it wasn’t conducive to the type of learning required to these special needs students,” McKee said. After receiving a grant from Arthur Orr, the classes combined to make the Resource Center a beautiful place to be. In the future, McKee’s plan is to get special needs playground equipment, start a garden, and teach basic gardening skills and how to maintain landscaping. She is also in the process of renovating the front part of the building to offer electives for students such as art and expand the sensory room.
