After coming off a big win over the Brewer Patriots, the Hartselle Tigers were looking to flex their muscles even more when the welcomed the West Morgan Rebels.

Seth Garner started the game with a bang. After getting a huge block, Garner caught an alley oop from Trace Hill and proceeded to slam it in as the Tiger’s gymnasium erupted. Hartselle led 4-2 at this point. The Tiger’s kept their fast start going as Kyle Eddy came up with a steal and tossed it to Hill who drained it in from beyond the three point line to make the score 9-2. West Morgan cut the lead to 9-5 but Garner delivered 4 more points and then Eric Stephenson got a buzzer beating jumper that made it 15-5 at the end of one.

As the second quarter started, West Morgan tried to climb back into the game. Parker Henson drained two free throws to cut the lead to 15-7. However, Keondre Swoopes delivered five straight points to push it back to 20-7. Two three pointers by Graden Lowry and Peyton Smith cut the lead to 20-13. However, Eddy added another basket and Isaac Taylor nailed a three pointer as Hartselle took the halftime lead 25-15.

Hartselle kept the pressure on the Rebels in the second half as Eddy and Garner opened the half with scores. Henson and Gammon Morgan would each get baskets to cut the lead to 29-21. The two teams would each add ten more points as Hartselle kept the lead 39-31 going into the final quarter.

This would be the closest West Morgan came as the Tigers dominated the last period. Taylor notched seven points in the last quarter as Hartselle only allowed the Rebels to score four. The Tigers took the win 53-35 while never once surrounding the lead to improve to 2-1.

Player of the game: Seth Garner. Garner started the game with a bang and never looked back. Rebounding has been an area that head coach Faron Key has said the Tigers need improvement in and Garner answered the call. He controlled the rim all night.
