Lifted up in prayer

Prayers for protection and unity

Thursday evening, July 21, members of the community surrounded law enforcement officers, first responders and military personnel. The men and women were surrounded not by protest, or anyone wishing them ill will. Instead they were surrounded by members of the community praying for their safety and for unity in the community.

Over 250 attended the service, which was the idea of local resident Susie Burgess. Burgess said she felt led to work on the event and took the idea to her Pastor Dr. Milan Dekich, at Fairview: The Grace Place in Falkville.

The men and women stood at the front of the civic center while many in the audience placed hands on them and prayed for them. Local pastors, Wayne Penn, Jimmy Williams and Fairview youth minister Seth Coleman prayed prayers of protection over them and prayed for the communities of the nation to come together and stop the violence.

Families of the law enforcement officers and first responders joined them at the event as well.
