School campus Prayer Walk August 7

A school campus Prayer Walk will be Sun., Aug. 7, at 6 p.m. at Morgan and Lawrence County schools. Please don’t miss out on this opportunity to pray for our students, teachers and administrators. This activity is sponsored by First Priority and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. If anyone is interested in leading the prayer walk at one of the campuses, please contact Larry Franks at Larry@fpdecatur.org. Everyone is welcome to participate.

Corinth West Baptist Church women’s group met Sun., July 3, at 10 a.m. The devotional was given by Dana Henslee from Proverbs 19:21. There are many devices in a man’s heart, nevertheless the counsel of the Lord that shall stand. Shanda Garner led the business session. Members finalized plans for vacation Bible school, which will be a one day event Sat., July 23, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The theme will be Submerged and teachers, music leaders and crafts and recreation helpers have been preparing for this event. Food service members will do lunch, refreshments and a meal after the closing program for VBS students, parents and the church staff. The women’s group also planned the senior Citizens lunch Tues., July 19, at 11 a.m. Hilton Kelly will smoke chicken and pork and the women’s and men’s groups will bring sides and desserts. Donna Smithson served juice and Dana served fruit, donuts, yogurt and cupcakes. The next meeting will be Aug. 7, at 10 a.m.

Peggy Penn Rogers along with her daughter Pam Chaffee of Spanish Fort visited in the Johnson’s Chapel Community recently. Her nephew, Gerald Penn is currently living there and managing her cattle farm. Pam’s husband, Doug and daughter Evie also visited in the area. The family returned to Spanish Fort June 29.

The Youth Evangelism Conference will be July 22-23 at First Baptist Church in Trussville. The program will be Speak, from Ephesians 4:15 with messages from Walt Barnes, Clayton King and Chad Poe, and worship with The Museum and Flame.

Belated birthday wishes go out this week to Mildred Reid from the Battleground area. Mildred was honored with a 90th birthday party at Cedar Springs Facility in Decatur, Sun., July 3, from 2- 4 p.m.

Happy wedding anniversary wishes to Rassie and Avis Wallace as they celebrate their 48th wedding anniversary July 13 and Brian and Amber Pendleton as they celebrate their 8th anniversary July 14.

Tim Besnyl and Johnny O’Neil, the son and grandson of Carolyn Besnyl arrived from California Sat., July 9 for a visit with family and friends. They plan to visit with Terry Boyd in Decatur and Joyce O’Neil, Randy Besnyl and Carolyn Besnyl in Massey. While in Morgan County, they enjoyed a family fish fry Sun., July 10 at Terry Boyd’s home in Decatur. On Tues., July 12, Carolyn, Joyce, Randy and Johnny enjoyed going to Crystal City, MO, where they visited with Joyce’s son, Alex O’Neil. They also enjoyed viewing some of the scenic and historic places in the St. Louis, Missouri area.

Christian love and heartfelt prayers go out to Pam Chaffee, formerly Pam Rogers of Johnson’s Chapel Community. Pam had three days of treatments June 27-29 in Cullman for MS. She and her family live in Spanish Fort. Our prayers are for her to be in remission.

Christian love and heartfelt prayers go out this week for Paul Rowe who has pneumonia. Paul is in Summerford Nursing Home and to the family of Sammy Crowe of the Friendship area near Danville and to the family of Jim McAbee also from Danville and to the families of Amy McCutcheon McGowan, Sandy Holmes Copeland, Ronny Strickland and Abrey Davenport.

“Pray Across America” was observed by Corinth West Baptist Church Sun., July 3. Hilton Kelly smoked chicken and pork for a fellowship lunch after the morning worship service at 11 a.m. Members brought desserts and sides for the luncheon. Brother Glenn Miller conducted the prayer ritual at 1 p.m.

McKendree UMC Celebrate Recovery group enjoyed their meal of corndogs, fries, slaw, and pies and cakes Fri., July 1, at 5:30 p.m. The prayer and praise service was led by Noah Battles afterward. Brother Mike Vest continued the study on self-evaluation for the program. The group session for women was conducted by Tammy Vest and Lynn Hogan. Brother Mike led the men’s group discussion and Maria Choa worked with the children’s group.
