FHS sneaks past Tarrant

The Blue Devils remain perfect after defeating Tarrant at home Friday night 30-14 as they fought through weather delays.

Caleb Vinson started the scoring on the first play on the drive for Falkville with a 34-yard run for a touchdown. Zac Brown was true on his extra point and FHS got an early 7-0 lead with 9:01 to play in the opening quarter.

The teams left the field with under three minutes to play in the first quarter due to a weather delay.

FHS returned to the field and scored on their opening play, wrapping up a previous nine-play drive. Ryan Sullivan connected to Andy Dove on a 42-yard pass play. Sullivan added the extra point and sent the lead to 14-0 with 2:15 on the clock.

Tarrant continued to fight back and replied with a set of touchdowns in the second quarter. The first came with 5:55 left before the half after recovering a Falkville fumble on the FHS 47-yard line. A five-play drive created the 18-yard run for a touchdown by Jovon Covington. Jawuan Powell was successful on his two-point conversion.

Powell managed a 70-yard breakaway run for a touchdown minutes later. Their 2-point conversion failed and the teams were tied 14-14 at halftime.

A methodical 12-play drive gave FHS momentum for their opening score in the third quarter. Sullivan found Logan Vinson on a seven-yard pass play for a touchdown. Sullivan was true on his PAT and FHS led the Wildcats 21-14.

A pick by Falkville’s Andy Dove made way for a three-play drive that put another seven points on the scoreboard. Sullivan found Dove in an open field and connected on a 38-yard pass for a touchdown. Sullivan remained perfect on his extra point attempts for the night.

The Blue Devils’ managed a safety with 3:51 to play in the game after Devin Reed sacked the Wildcats in the end zone.

FHS went on to win 30-24. Falkville is now 7-0, 4-0 in regional play. They will play Southeastern at Southeastern Friday night.

Sullivan finished 10 for 17 with one interception, 118 yards and three touchdowns. Caleb Vinson managed 19 carries for 101 yards and a touchdown.
