Fayette County quarterback Drew Guy threw for 370 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead his team to a 35-16 win over the Danville Hawks last Friday night at Smith-Owens Stadium. Guy’s 25 yard td pass to Kondarius Wilson gave the Tigers the lead for good (14-10) 28 seconds before halftime. The touchdown came just over a minute after Hawk kicking specialist Logan “Batman” Jaep nailed a 32-yard field goal to give the Hawks a 10-7 lead.
Fayette County took the opening kick and drove 65 yards, scoring on a 37 yard Guy to Wilson pass. Guy added the PAT to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead. Danville then drove to the Fayette 30 before turning the ball over. After forcing a Fayette punt, the Hawks got on the board when Ryan Self scored on an 18-yard run. Jaep kicked the PAT to tie the game at 7.
The 3rd quarter proved to be the difference in the game as Fayette scored twice to take a 28-10 lead. The Hawk offense played the entire quarter in its own territory as they were unable to put together a long drive similar to the 16 play drive that ended with the Jaep field goal in the 2nd period.
Danville continued to fight however and with 9:36 left in the game Jacob Morehead’s 2 yard run cut the Tiger lead to 28-16. After a failed two-point attempt, the Hawks tried an onside kick but were unsuccessful. Fayette then scored on a 3-yard run by Wilson to give the Tigers the 35-16 win.
Morehead led all Danville rushers with 111 yards on 20 carries and a touchdown. Danville, now 3-1 overall and 1-1 in region play will travel to Priceville next Friday night to take on the undefeated Bulldogs.
