The Hartselle Lions Club claimed their first fund raiser to be a success at their bimonthly meeting last Thursday.

The club sold Boston butts, chicken halves and racks of ribs for the July Fourth holiday.

The club sold 67 butts, 76 chicken halves and 56 racks of ribs.

After costs the club should clear approximately $1,360, which will be donated back into the local community. One of the ways the club will give back to the community is through the Alabama Lions Sight Conservation.

Shannon Parker of Enquirer Printing headed up the committee to move the fund raising effort forward. Parker, along with Dr. Chuck Gill of Morgan Animal Clinic and Dena Nagel of Journeys by Design, worked closely with other members of the club to line up cooks and prep work for the event.

Special thanks goes to Joel Gurley who donated his time cooking 40 of the butts for the club. Southern Hickory, Pig Stand and Patrick Johnson also helped with the cooking of the butts, chicken and ribs.

With the success of this first fund raiser, the club plans to make this an annual event.

Upcoming, the club is working on possibly cosponsoring a Zombie Run in September. More details will follow as they are worked out. They can be found in the Hartselle Enquirer in print and online.
