Elevators being replaced at courthouse
At the last county commission meeting, the commissioners unanimously adopted a resolution accepting a bid from Bagby Elevator for $315,009 for the elevator replacement project.
According to Chairman Ray Long, all motors in the three elevators will be replaced. The courthouse has four elevator shafts, but the fourth one never had an elevator installed when the building was constructed in the 1970s.
The current elevators run slowly due to their advanced age. The project will make the elevators quicker, and new technology will bring them up to date.
The project was not in the current budget but will be paid for out of capital improvement funds, which are set aside to handle such issues when they arise.
