In honor of Memorial Day, the Boy Scouts of Pack 92 are planning a flag retirement ceremony at the veterans memorial at Sparkman Park June 14 at 2 p.m. Local veterans are invited to attend.
The Town of Priceville and the Priceville Park and Recreation Board are excited to announce the “May Music at the Memorial.” It will be at the Morgan County Veterans Memorial on Highway 67 in Priceville on May 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. Michael Dean & Memphis of Priceville/Decatur is an Elvis tribute artist and will perform oldies.
A Summer Celebration will be Wed., June 3, at 3 p.m. at the SNAP Splash Pad behind the civic center. There will be free Sno-Cones and small treasures for children ages 12 and under. This free event will be held every Wednesday in June and there is no need to register.
The American Red Cross will be at the Tennessee Valley Training Center, 100 Safety Way, Decatur 35601, Wed., June 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 pm.
The 2015 Golf Tournament, sponsored by Hartselle First United Methodist Church youth group, will be at the Burningtree Country Club Mon., June 8. The Hartselle Board of Education will have its regular meeting June 15 at 6 p.m. at the central office.
The American Red Cross will be at the American Red Cross-Lawrence Co Chapter Main Room, 431 Holly Street, Decatur, Thur., June 18, noon to 5 p.m.
Daughters bring your dear old dad out for a night of dinner and dancing. Daddy Daughter Date night is June 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. The menu will include salad, bread, chicken alfredo or chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, green beans and an ice cream bar. Daughters and granddaughters of all ages are encouraged to bring Dad out for a few hours of quality time that will be cherished forever. A $10 per person fee must be paid no later than June 15 to reserve places.
A June Painting Party class featuring Independence Day themed door hangers will be June 23 at 6 p.m. The door hanger options include: a flag, a star or a popsicle. The $15 fee must be paid no later than June 18. Children are welcome to attend, but they must be accompanied by a participating adult.
A Kids in the Kitchen class will be June 24, with ages 9-10 from 8 to 11 a.m. and ages 11-12 from 1 to 4 p.m. Kids will learn simple meal preparation and utensil recognition. We will prepare breakfast, dinner and dessert during this class. The fee is $10 per person. Please register and pay the fee no later than June 19.
The American Red Cross will be at Decatur Mall, Store next to Carmike Cinema, 1801 Beltline Road in Decatur, Mon., June 29, from 1 to 6 p.m.
Hartselle’s finest will be at Sparkman Civic Center June 30 from 9 to 11 a.m. for the youth police academy to give children an idea of what really goes on behind the scenes. The police officers invite children ages 5 and older to look inside a patrol car and learn about other exciting police procedures. This event is free. Those that register on June 22 or before will receive a free Youth Police Academy T-shirt sponsored by the Citizen’s Police Academy Alumni Association.
Sparkman Civic Center is hosting a Spa Party July 1 where girls ages 8-10 will receive manicures, pedicures and facials. Appointments will begin at 10 a.m. The fee is $10 and includes a snack and a goodie bag. Please register and pay the fee no later than June 26.

Hartselle’s New Beginnings Quilt Guild meets on the second Thursday of each month at the Farm Service Agency office on Alabama 36 west of downtown Hartselle. It is open to all who are interested in quilt making, The guild is focused on beginning quilt makers to help them learn how to make a new block each month and new techniques used to make them. Priceville Palace hosts a big band swing dance with the Sophisticated Swingers on the first Friday of each month at 7:30 p.m. Every Saturday night Glenn Wood and the Crosscut Band is featured. Senior Nutrition Center, also known as the Hartselle Senior Center is the place for friendly visiting, serious Rook and Canasta, a loud game of Texas spinner dominoes, sing-a-longs, informative chats and so much more. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Groups also participate in evening supper bus trips. Hartselle Civitan Club meets the first and third Monday at 6 p.m. in Sparkman Civic Center Room 10. The club works with Civitan International to support and work with people in our community with mental and physical disabilities and support the Civitan International Research Center in Birmingham. Civitan is the only civic club with a research center. Hartselle Civitan Club was responsible for starting the Special Needs Accessible Playground located directly behind the Sparkman Civic Center.
